Not sure why THIS is the number one attraction in Aviles. It is a very clean and tranquil park, but there are other parks like this in small towns in Spain.

We called into the port of Aviles whilst on a cruise and this magnificent Church towered the skyline so we decided to visit it inside . Inside it was beautiful and the ornate wood work carvings and pictures do the outside justice, Its amazing that we in our country seem to have less churches to this standard.

Don't look as this as a destination until itself. Consider it a stopping point in a journey. The church itself is interesting, but do yourself a favor and get here by some winding side streets and explore around the area. Except for the motorized vehicles around (and they are few), you'll feel as though you might have been transported back a century. All of Aviles, in fact, has that laid back air that seems like it comes from another time, and this church seems to capture that feeling very well.

This plaza is the heart of the old city. Aviles has a lot of old and unique buildings that have been well maintained. It is really a pleasant side trip to stop here. The old city is small so it doesn't take a huge amount of time to see it.

This building is located in one of the old squares of the town, uphill slightly from the main square and main shopping streets. Nice area to stroll around, both in daytime but also after dark.

Located in a nice square, not far from the main town square and shopping streets, this is a nice spot to visit. It is also a good place to stroll around after dark too.

I have gone a couple times. Is little and with good sound. It preserves the decoration and the architecture. So you can feel the magic that the theater have in the past with the detail decoration, the red velvet, etc.
The bad thing is that the cheap tickets are going to place you in quite uncomfortable sits.

The person who met us at the door immediately sent for the English speaking employee. She was helpful and told us to start on the top floor and work our way down. She gave us a brochure in English and French that explained the floors and exhibits. I don't think there was a charge for the museum, but if there is, it's very small. The views out the windows of the museum are great, too. There seems to be a front and a back entrance. There were displays on the medieval town, the bourgeois town, and the modern town. This museum won't blow your socks off, but it's a nice, quiet, cool place to spend an hour and learn about the history of the town back to paleolithic times. Check the opening times as they do close between 1:30 and 4pm -- just like the rest of the town. ;)
