Snorkelling Trips to Silfra in the National Park Thingvellir are operated by DIVE.IS. We conduct a variety of different Snorkeling Day Tours, such as the all time bestseller, the Snorkeling Silfra Day Tour or a number of Combo Tours where you can combine Snorkeling in Silfra with the Golden Circle or Caving in a lava tube or a visit to the Blue Lagoon or Horseback Riding or more...
We went in January and let me tell you, my hands have never been so cold. They suit you up in a dry suit and a wet suit and my body was perfectly comfy, but my hands were so cold it was painful. What a cool experience though! The water is shockingly blue and our guide was super friendly.

Located 31 miles east of Reykjavik, this is Iceland's most historic site and one of its most scenic landscapes.
We went through Thingvellir as part the last full day of a south Iceland photography workshop. The terrain is amazing with wide vistas, geological formations including the fault line between the American and Europe tectonic plates, a massive lake, and Waterfalls. Admission and parking was free.

Here as part of an Iceland photography workshop. The water fall named Oxararfoss is part of a bigger geological phenomenon where the European and North American plates meet. The waterfall falls into the rocky trench formed by this. Nice boardwalk but can be icy in colder weather and is a 400m walk from the free parking lot.

You must stop and read about the "law speaker" (great panels on the walking trail explaining this area) while visiting Thingvellir. This is the place where laws were "pronounced" for the people. This is a very crowded place, but bring your "patience" and enjoy your visit to this park.

In Thingvellir National park there are several car parking lots.
One near the Main Visitor Centre at Hakid, 2 near the assembly field and Oxararfoss fall, and parking 5 at 100 meter from the church and 300 meter from the Silfra Dive site.
You have to buy a dayticket of 500 ISK/car and display it on your dashboard.
You can park on all the parking lots for 1 day.
My husband and I parked near the main visitor centre, and decided to explore the area on foot, instead of driving from one parking to the next, as it is a very nice walk.
The church and assembly buildings are located in the valley near the river Öxar, which attracts many waterfowl.
Thingvallakirkja is a small church, with an old graveyard in front of it.
The surrounding nature is stunning, and the view on strange rocks of the Almannagja fault is very nice too.

Situated at the foothills of the Mt. Hengill volcano, only 35 km from Reykjavik in the beautiful tectonic rift valley at Nesjavellir, is the Adrenalin High Rope Course where the ultimate fun challenge awaits you. The rope course consists of 50 obstacles at 1, 5 and 10m height aswell as a 85m zip line and a Giant swing which are the longest and/or highest in Iceland.
The crack where the European and North American Tectonic plates come together, a geologically active area on the Golden Circle tour

Interesting place to see, Gálgaklettur, a cliff where they use to execute people. In Iceland execution was legal until 1928 but the las execution was in 1820. It is always interesting to visit a historic place but I can’t imagen how many lost their life there. Just an interesting place to visit on the way to the swimming pool.
