The third museum with 5 stars in Koksijde ( others are Abdijmuseum Ten Duinen, Delvaux museum) is the Visserij museum. It used to be a small charming museum but since some years it has been completely renewed and extended and is now a modern museum about the live of fishermen and fishes alike.
The museum is build on different floors and host among others real boats and an interesting aquarium with lots of fishes. You can try to identify the fishes using the pictures and text giving on the posters. Problem: the fishes are continuously moving and there are lots of them. By the time you think you have identified one he is gone.
It is also a large museum, so take a few hours to visit. And of the three museums it is also the one I would most recommend to visit with kids.
To prepare your visit have a look at the website : www.navigomuseum.be It has an English version.
Of course , just outside the museum you have a café-restaurant. It is build in an old fisherman’s house and has a large Terrace. If you are just in for a drink then take a Rodenbach (Belgian specialty beer) with grey North Sea shrimps.

Coincidently we found out about these Paardevissers, this was a highlight during our holiday! To see the horses go on the beach and into the sea. That was great! The fishermen are really keeping tradion in honour. Good job! Unfortunately the kids were not allowed to sit on th horse for a minute, but understandable

We got in free as part of Sunparks accommodation. The pool didn't seem very big, but not sure if we expired all of it. Didn't see much of outside pool due to it being so cold, but we did enjoy it and the slides are great! The toddler absolutely loved the little pool and slides. I imagine in summer it's heaving and probably not as enjoyable, but as its heated an off peak swim is just as good.
Possibly not enough family change areas and the lockers are tiny esp if you have coats and bags for a family to store in there. Many didn't have strings on the keys so I had to hold the key the whole time.
Moving between the pool and change room is also a cold transition so have your towels to hand the breeze between the too is very chilly.
Overall the kids had great fun although it was a short visit.

In Oostduinkerke there are fishermen that come with their Belgium horse with large nets. They collect shrimps by the thousands. Tourists love to see them. I tried to find them, but I never was I able to see one of them.
However, I did find one of them, with all its material he needed to collect the shrimps. Strangely enough, it didn't move, it was a statue of a fisherman. This way, anyone can see a fisher of shrimps at any time of day or evening.
The town of Oostduinkerke wanted to honor those fishermen, as they did attract many tourists, as well as lots of shrimps! The statue clearly shows all the material they use for collecting shrimps. It isn't that easy to collect these shrimps. Often the wind can be ferocious and waves will come with a vengeance. They are the ones who defy the elements, no matter the weather.
Quite worthwhile for tourists to see how they go into the North Sea.
