Fun place, awesome for if you're with a big group. Several different areas and different terrains for paintballing as well as a nice tribune to watch from.

This place is unique. The Museum has taken actual old houses and brans from the Medieval times from all over Germany, and transported them to this great open Museum, with guided tours, live animals, and amazing trail walks ideal for short hikes. The place is great for children and adults alike. Interesting and old fashioned fun. A couple of minor issues though, the staff are not friendly, there aren't that many places where you can buy food for children (so come prepared), and the cafes close at different times that are not well communicated to the public. Some of the attractions were closed as well, which was a bit of a disappointment for my kids. But overall, the idea is brilliant and we had loads of fun (and went very hungry).

If you have any interest in architecture this is a mandatory place to visit. It is probably one of the most important buildings on the religious architecture scene of the XXI century.
It is next to the town of Wachendorf and they make you park the car at a 10m walk. I went there on a hot summer day and the walk was painful. However the setting and the building are amazing.
To know a little more about the architecture and the authors quotes read the following article:

This building is timeless, priceless, perfect, unique - you will understand why Zumthor is a genius...

The Satzvey castle is a medieval moated castle from a 12th century. It's considered to be a Wasserburg, castle built on an island surrounded by water. During the centuries, the castle was owned by several aristocratic families and was mostly left intact,
until WWII, when it was severely damaged. Rebuilt after the war,
today the castle is open to public and used for historic knights festivals and other historical Performances.

Spring is a great time to see their newborn baby animals! We enjoyed feeding the animals, especially the semi-wild deer. The highlight of our visit was getting quite close to some wild boar (of Asterix book fame). They were having a great time playing "I've got it, betcha no one else can get it from me" with a scrap of old hide their keepers had given them. We also enjoyed the llamas, and a peacock who was displaying his beautiful tail.

This lead mine forms part of an ore body that extends over 60 kilometers, even across the border into Belgium. Along its length this ore body is mined for different minerals including silver.
The mine at Mechernich was first mined in Roman times.
Some parts of the mine were modified to act as an air raid shelter for 3000 people during WW2. This included blast doors, a fully fitted out pharmacy, medical facility etc. Finally the mine was closed in 1957 due to it being uneconomic, although it is understood that substantial reserves remain.
A very interesting museum above surface provides additional information on the mine, the miners - including roman artifacts and other pertinent facts regarding the lead industry.
The museum and mine tour is geared more towards German speakers.

I went to this summer ride and 2€ for 1 person for one round. One roind will take about 5 minutes . However, there alot of nice sightseeing when you ride. There is a children ground play nearby and mini golf. Overall it was the best summer ride near Cologne.
