Una National Park

Reviewed By Di D - Miami, FL

Beautiful countryside and falling water of the Una River. Visiting the two major Waterfalls here in the park and the drive in-between was the best part of our holiday. The scenery was beautiful. Few people except the ocassional farmer or bee keeper. The roads were dirt but not terrible. You need a car to explore the area. If you like Plitvace Lakes, you'll love Una National Park. Well worth the effort to get there.

Fethija Mosque

The reconstruction to make this originally Gothic church into a mosque ruined a lovely structure. It would have been better if the mosque had been built somewhere else, or the church torn down and a mosque built on the site.

This was a fantastic experience we would strongly recommend to any visitors. 3 hours on the beautiful Una River guided through white water and calm stretches by a very knowledgeable and experienced guide.
We had not used a kayak before but it was a great way to explore the river. From being picked up to being dropped off back at our campsite, Amar and his father Emir were very professional, friendly and lovely people to meet.

We took the 2,5 hour rafting trip (booked through huckfinncroatia.com). First hour of the trip was pretty active, but another half required a bit of endurance since it was mostly still water and just paddling, paddling and some more paddling. Guides were nice and professional.

Una RC Kiro Rafting - Day Trips

Reviewed By CJMANUK - Manchester, United Kingdom

Kiro Rafting was polite, friendly and professional in all email communications prior to our trip to Bosnia Herzegovina. Whilst I am glad that I did rafting on the Una river near Bihac (as it is a phenomenally beautiful place) the experience was not a wholly positive one. We picked route 1 from the Una Kiro Rafting 3 itineraries on offer. It needs pointing out that most of the rapids are at the beginning of the trip, and for a long period it is simply a long, hard paddle along the river for several kilometres. Certainly, the majesty of the landscape is a big plus point! However, there gets to a point during a rafting trip when - without distraction or rapids - it becomes simply hard work. And this is what this trip turned out to be. We were in a group of 4 boats (rafts) setting off at the same time. Our boat was a combination of Germans and British, another was an extended French family, and the other two were, I think, Slovenian or Croatian. Each boat had a Kiro representative in charge. These guys were the main problem. There was no attempt made by any of the Kiro team to engage with anyone in their charge. Yes, they gave out the most basic of instructions at the beginning, but subsequently made no effort to ensure we - their paying guests - had a good time. The 4 boat captains seemed most keen on chatting to each other, showing off to each other and the rest of their customers, and generally on amusing themselves. During the rafting there were breaks for swimming in the rapids, jumping off rocks, drinking from a pure stream, and even jumping off a railway bridge over the river. All this was good fun, but never was it explained why we were breaking, or how long the breaks would be, nor was there any effort made by the Kiro guys to ensure group fun was had by all. You had to pick up what we were doing by watching others and copying. The Kiro group leaders simply amused themselves - talking as a foursome, smoking together, generally paying little attention to their guests. There was no attempt by the boat leaders to create camaraderie in each group and ensure this was a laugh - the enjoyable experience that it should be. The long hard stretches of paddling could have been made fun, or at least, more interesting, had the boat leaders talked to the rest of us - either about the history of rafting on the Una, what we we were seeing in the wonderful geography of the area, or indeed anything at all. The silence simply made it tedious towards the end of the journey - we were all just knackered and bored. The Kiro people 'on land' were lovely, the facilities at their site wonderful, so it is such a shame that the key people in this venture - the rafting leaders - fell so short. They need to focus on offering a great customer experience, not on trying to be cool. I know that our perspectve on Kiro's team was shared by the French boat, as we all discussed how disgruntled we were at the end of the trip. The best thing Kiro could do is pop up to Slovenia and do the Emerald River Adventure with 3Glav-Adventures.com and see how this sort of thing should be done.
