6 Things to Do in Loreto That You Shouldn't Miss

February 9, 2018 Darwin Bolte

With pleasant weather year-round, Loreto invites you to come outside and play. Less crowded than some resort towns, it's a great base for snorkeling, sport fishing or just relaxing on the beach. Annual whale migrations draw massive crowds in springtime.

Did the boat trip to Coronado Island. Did try the snorkeling with the sea lions. But it was February and even with wetsuits the water was too cold to enjoy the experience. Stopped on the beach for lunch. Walked the path to the other side of the island. Not much different to see. Was a good way to waste away a half of day, but nothing spectacular.

Mission San Francisco, which is about a 45 minute drive from Loreto is a day trip that nobody should miss. The Mission is the first Mission ever built in Baja Mexico and has maintained in structural integrity for more than a century and a half.
The road that goes to the Mission is now paved, so it is more comfortable and it takes less time to get there. The Mission is beautiful. If you are a photographer, it's a dream to photograph. There are details, both in and out that are eye catching. I spent almost four hours photographing it.
Although the Mission in Loreto is nice, this Mission is much better. In fact, the drive to the Mission is an adventure in itself.
Definitely a place to visit when down in the Loreto area.

The Marine Park of Loreto continually showcases its sea life. Fin whales and dolphins frolic most of the year as well as an abundant sea life of crustaceans, seals, sea lions, sea birds, and other smaller fish.
The winter months are especially good when the humpback and blue whales visit the pristine waters.

Such a beautiful Mission and setting in Loreto. The inside is very simple and quite beautiful. Huge beams and wood adorn the ceiling and the outside is highlighted by beautiful tall palms.
