Once mighty fortress now a ruin, being repaired by volunteers. Still impressive and visible from far away, an easy goal for half an hour's walk on well marked path from both sides, either from village Lietava or from Lietavska Svina, about 10 km from the regional centre- Zilina.

Unfortunately there are not too many places to see in Zilina city, so you can be sure that once you stay there you will visit this Marianske Square. It is an ordinary square you can see in almost every bigger city, not all buildings are in a good condition and in summer period you even can't fully enjoy their beauty, because of umbrellas in front of every restaurant. But you will enjoy, this place lives. You can choose from plenty of restaurants and cafes or just walk around and watch. There is a nice Fountain in the center of the square and 2 wells with beautiful forged fencing. One of them is little bit hidden in a corner of the square under the ground level.

Unfortunately I never had a chance to see this church inside as I only come to Zilina at evenings, but every time I am in the city I come to this place to admire its proud neat building looking down to the square. I can't stop taking pictures.

The centre has a few interesting and useful shops, such as Apple Retailer, H&M, EXI Sport, Levis and an alright shoe shop. Also, the organic foodstore is pretty awesome! Otherwise, theres really not much to get from this place..

Not an ordinary train station. Stanica Zilina-Zariecie functions as a sentient cultural hub as well. You can join one of the numerous events taking place here: Concerts, theater, workshops, discussions, cinema or just relax in the cafe-bar with contemporary art and design publications. Extras: a childrens corner, a garden to lay in the sun and Stanica's concert hall made of beer crates.
Stanica is one of most iconic places in Žilina. If you are looking for some alternative movies, good frech waffles, volunteer activities or maybe just some place to hang out with friends - you should totally come!

Seems like a nice place, park is beautiful, but can go in, just on certain hours !!!
The building is beautiful, the park around it, too.
But if you want to enter the place, it has to be ONLY as part of their tour, which is only on certain hours. This practice is in a lot of Slovak museums. I find it very strange. Just sell the ticket and let people go in and see, why someone has to wait an hour until the next tour... ?

Budatin castle is a part of Žilina’s historical and architectural heritage. It was built on the confluence of the Vah and Kysuca rivers, on a trade road junction as a look-out tower and castle. The castle’s oldest part is the cylindrical four-floor tower which was most likely built in the 13th century as it is first mentioned in 1323. The tower is 20m high by 12m wide and the walls are almost 2m thick in some parts.
After reconstruction it became the permanent residence of several Exhibitions. These include ancient archaeological findings from the north-western territories of Slovakia, Burghers’ exhibition of domestic interiors, wire crafts art exhibition and a special collection of 18th and 19th century art. The wire crafts art collection is unique, it is one of a kind in presenting Slovak art.
