Yangjiang, formerly romanized as Yeungkong, is a prefecture-level city in southwestern Guangdong Province in the People's Republic of China. It borders Maoming to the west, Yunfu to the north, Jiangmen to the east, and looks out to the South China Sea to the south. The local dialect is the Gaoyang dialect, a branch of Cantonese. During the 2010 census, its population was 2,421,748 inhabitants of whom 1,119,619 lived in the built-up (or metro) and largely urbanized area comprising Jiangcheng District and Yangdong County.

Driving down for about two and half hours from Zhongshan, Zuhai or Guangzhou, you come to Hailing Island. I love it! Nothing to do with horrible Hainan (Sanya), at least so as I experienced it. Unfortunately probably because of a lack of knowledge in tourism management Zhapo, the main coastal city is nothing but a dead place, especially at night. There's nothing but cheap shops all selling the same swim crap, some sea-food open restaurant that max. at 10pm they empty and eventually street food BBQ and coconuts. Nightlife equals to zero.
Fortunately though there's a fantastic, unique Restaurant named Italy Square where let me be honest you can eat the very best italian food in China. Absolutely highest quality. Besides pasta and sea food, I had a "Branzino in crosta di sale" that was even better than in Sicily.
Just walk the seaside pedestrian road and check for Italy Square: unforgettable food, loveliest people (Gigi & Wendy), typical atmosphere and environment as if you'd be in a Italian Trattoria.

You won't be surprised, if you've been elsewhere in coastal China before - crowds of people during peak season, there's a barriers, limiting your swimming exercises (and spoiling the whole enjoyment) and a number of lifeguards, stopping you from crossing those bounds, huge queues to a changing rooms/lockers. Nothing fancy & would recommend this beach only in case if you need to kill some time on Hailing.

The wearther in April turned out to be warmer than we thought -- the endless beach, silk-like water and tranquility made our brief visit perfect and memorable. Choice of hotel is limited but we chose to stay at the home rental at one of the largest property development there (Precious Coast). The room is perfect and the price is a great bargain. More importantly, the harmony of the tidal waves made our stay truly unforgettable. We will definitely return again in the summer.

Not ten miles, but 9.5km in length for the beach. A clean place for a rest. Not many commercial facilities, yet. Beach volley ball, fishing boats and a restaurant on the beach. Next to Guangdong Maritime Silk Road Museum which is worth a visit when in Hailing Island.

I asked a local expat if there was an "old temple" in Yangjiang that I could photograph and this place was the only choice. It took us a while to find it, but when we finally got there it was in a great location near the river. The temple isn't large, but it has some interesting buildings. One of the trees was decorated with thousands of prayer ribbons. It's one of the more photographic cultural sites to visit in Yangjiang. Once you've see Duck Lake Park and the beach this is a nice break.

Went there today to find the museum closed indefinetly. There is no warning on Chinese websites and the local buses are still advertising the museum but everything was firmly shut. Workers on site say it is closed for refurbishment. They appeared to be just going through the motions. Judging by the amount of debris and mess surrounding the building nobody cares sbout it any more and it is unlikely to reopen any time soon. The museum of the Maritime Silk Road next door has also closed, apparently
upermanently. Without its star attractions the town has gone down hill and is now frankly a dump.
