We would love to welcome you at the shopping centre of Venlo! The inner-city still has the old structure of the medieval streets. Small streets connecting public squares. Be pleasantly surprised!

My wife and I visited Venlo when we stayed in Germany for several weeks last summer. The drive from Essen to Holland is easy going and pleasant. Once in Venlo, don't waste your time looking for a parking space. Just head straight for the underground parking in the centre. It's easy to find and won't break the bank. You can also park on the large market square if you like. It's directly above the underground parking in the centre. The Town Hall is well worth seeing and there are plenty of places to eat to suit all pockets. There are also plenty of shops in what is effectively a pedestrian town centre. We spent a pleasant couple of hours there.

This museum displays many items sent home by the missionaries working around the world. One room is dedicated to Africa, with drums, ceremonial staffs, masks, and more. A booklet provides info. about the items. Another room displays insects, including many butterflies, and spiders and other small creatures. This gives a nice overview of the diversity of the small wildlife around the world. The preying mantices are maybe the most interesting. In the back there is one large room with large scenes of the larger wildlife, with birds, mammals, and other animals all crowded together. This yields some spectacular views. In the same room there are also glass cases filled with items from particular regions of the world, such as Papua New Guinea, Japan, etc.. Well worth a visit.

When visiting countryside Netherlands this summer with my daughter, we visited this little museum in Tegelen, specialised in ceramics, which is located within the terrain of the hotel Chateau Holtmuhle.
The museum has a very interesting collection of ceramics from the 30s on, but also some pieces from Roman pottery that were found on excavations in the area and a very creative collection of modern ceramic.
It shows the history of local artists and it had an important social role during the World War II, continuing teaching ceramics to the locals.
Until today, the museum is quite active with classes on modelling and painting clay for adults and kids.
It caught my attention the huge number of creative tableware pieces for asparagus, which is a popular product in the region. By the way, you can have a tour also to harvest asparagus. Worth a visit.

Attractiepark Toverland

Toverland it great fun lots for younger children and big rides too. Best thing about toverland that other theme parks don't have as much of is the indoor and outdoor attractions. There are 2 large indoor warehouse spaces full of rides they are connected by a dark walkway with fake tree trunks but beware the uneven ground in it with toddlers we had a fall so hold hands and it's fine. There's lots to do inside the first one has chair swings , a snack bar , spinning cups , a magic house where the kids get wands to point remotely at points and magic stiff happens very nice little attraction, indoor coaster and the second one has a fun house which my five year old LOVED he wanted to do this over and over also the toboggan ride is good in this area as this is only 2 people per go it has a long queue but worth it a nice extra is the photo on this ride gives your finish time as it is a real type toboggan you have some influence on your track time with a lever you pull and there is an online score chart . Another snack place in here too and a huge climb frame with long slides . And a traditional carousel and a funny ride that's like on a bean stalk that swings you upwards.
The outdoor areas are very nice too on a sunny day my kids favourite bit is the stepping stone type area in front of the Fountain show they loved splashing in the puddles. There are horses that go around a track that younger kids can do behind the swinging pirate ship .
It's a very visually appealing park everything seems finished to a high standard.

This place had rough times and a bankrupcy. If the start of this season Is a sign, it Is back to misery. There was not enough staff at the entry the petting zoo was not ready and the restaurant in the back ( containing the AED) was closed. The Stones at the White Buddah were loose so I almost fell. Maybe Hire some gardeners to clean up.
I hope they will clean up their act

Limburgs Museum

With our train scheduled to leave at 3pm, we really did not have time to do this fascinating place the justice it deserves.
From the front it does not look very big and the architecture does not capture you, but once in the doors the perspective changes.
We were welcomed by the desk staff who answered our various initial questions, and having bought four tickets we were give various bits of paper in English.
The museum is spread over three floors, with really well presented displays in chronological order - from 250,000BC up to modern day.
There are lots of things for the younger visitors to be occupied, and at the end your entrance ticket includes drinks in the very nice cafe.
One gripe was there could be more translation available. There were a lot of items in Dutch only.
We will visit again, and allow much more time.

We decided to have a go at Fun Forest as we have been to Go Ape in the UK. This was very similar and hard work!! Youngest child was 11 and she could only do certain courses as there were height restrictions on the others. The zip lines on course 7 were great. The guy who gave us our safety briefing was really thorough and very professional, he checked at all times that we understood what we were doing. Good value for money and definitely worth having a go! The Bos itself is a great place to visit.

This is a very special place in my opinion: there are many plants and trees from all over the world in an area of a limited size. After your walk though the Gardens and the greenhouse you can have a nice cup of coffee with a local cake ("vlaai"), and enjoy the quietness of the garden.
