We recently flew Golden Bay Air from Karamea to Takaka after walking the Heaphy Track. There were 7 people in our group so we chartered 2 planes to pick us all up. Staff were extremely helpful, and more than accommodating when arranging pick up dates and times to fit in with our plans. We had a fantastic flight, with the pilot pointing out all the interesting scenery and the weather was beautiful. Golden Bay Air provided the perfect ending to an amazing trip.

I thoroughly enjoyed the walk in, my first in a beech forrest. Was beautiful and very peaceful.
Very easy walk for 20 - 30 minutes until you hit a rocky area about 15 minutes from the end.
I am not very sure footed so slowed down and was a bit slow over the rocks. Pretty scenery and lots of birdsong.
The hole itself is not very visible as its difficult to access safely to get a view. Enjoyed the last bit of scrambling across rocks to the end. The estimated walk time of 40 - 45 minutes is fairly accurate.
Road in is well graded and just a bit narrow here and there. Drive to the end of the Rd.
The highlight for me was the beech forrest.

We are based out of Takaka Airport, come along to the end of the driveway to our office with Scenic Flights across the top, see you soon!
What a fantastic experience this was and without doubt THE best way to see Golden Bay and Farewell Sound. Mit is a fantastic pilot and an entertainer too. He is the perfect advocate and embassador for Golden Bay. If you are a visitor to Golden Bay you must do this trip! Enjoy!

Golden Bay Kayaks is one of the best little kayak companies in New Zealand, situated in one of the best kayaking destinations in the world, which is why it is such a popular destination for all kayakers from beginners to the more experienced. They specialise in kayak rentals for a half day, full day or the popular 'paddle the length of the Abel Tasman', the only company that will allow this. The Guided tours are a simple, no fuss, high value experience where the personal touch makes the half day spent on the water a memorable experience. Perfect for those that have not kayaked before or very little or for those keen to learn about the Northern end of the Abel Tasmans rich history, geology and wildlife. Stand Up Paddle boards available and the easily accessible Tata Islands is a fantastic destination to explore the close up nature of Islands. They are the closest sea kayak company to the Abel Tasman National Park. An extra bonus at the end(or start) of the day is the great coffee and ice cream....PERFECT!
We did the half day tour and it was amazing. The weather perfect, the tour guide was quirky and knowledgeable, and the kayaking was really fun! Better yet, we accidentally left our portable toilet behind (whoops) and they held onto it for us and even...MoreCongratulations Jack! Yours was the first toilet we have ever had left behind! It will be one of our seasons story highlights!! Look forward to seeing you again soon. Lisa and Tony

A well formed track that leads to the falls. At there falls the pool under the falls is quite difficult to access so not really suitable for swimming, but along the path you will find many places where a pool has formed and good for a dip. In some places there is even a small beach....BUT the water is bracing even in the middle of summer.

Just outside Takaka is a special place. It's a short walk through the reserve, past ferns and through a massive crack in the rocks with roots creeping down the sides. The end of the walk is a viewing platform with fabulous views over the farmland. Definitely worth a stop.

sadly the staff do not understand English sufficiently to answer our questions and left us feeling unsure of what was to happen to our fish in processing and packaging. This was not explained to us.It turned out to be very expensive as you don’t know what you will pay until after you have caught your fish and had it weighed

A sacred Maori spot, (no one is allowed to have contact with the water) this spring is one of the purest in the world, and is an enchanting colour. Sadly it has been "tarted up" since we went 12 years previously, but it is still a lovely short walk in the bush with birds singing.
