10 Things to Do in Tabor That You Shouldn't Miss
Tábor is one of the Czech Republic’s favorite tourist spots and the largest town in South Bohemia. If you visit, be sure to see the Gothic Town Hall, the underground of the town, the remnants of the fortification, the Gothic Church of the Metamorphosis of Our Lord on the Mount Tabor, Renaissance houses, Kotnov Castle and Museum of the Hussite Movement.

Hussite Museum is the museum about hussites, which were a Pre-Protestant Christian movement and they fought against the imposed Catholical religión in Middle Ages to reform it. One of the most important places of Hussites was the city of Tabor, where there is the Museum in the Town Hall. In the museum you can learn a lot about them and the history of the city, interesting.

The Žižka square (named after Jan Žižka) is the central square of the city and has many to offer: the Panorama of Tábor can be admired from the Tower of the Dean Church (250 steps) located on the highest point of the Hill, North side of the square, the late-Gothic town hall which houses the Hussite Museum and the entrance of the underground tunnel complex of Tábor. Almost all architectural styles are represented as this square is surrounded by architecturally valuable mansions (middle class house) such as Škochův dům houses numbers 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, Ctiborův dům and Lichvicovský dům. In the middle of the square the Renaissance Fountain and a monument to Jan Žižka ze Trocnov. The only two trees on the square are chestnuts and were planted in 1854 and were called František and Alžběta.

This unique museum is all about what you can design with chocolate and marzipan rather than just displaying it for sale, though there is certainly chocolate and marzipan for sale. My favourite item was the chocolate Jaromir Jagr, which was lifelike and to think of...MoreThanks a lot.

One of the highlights of the time that my wife and I spent in Tabor this past August was enjoying a great well marked walk(just go by the very helpful information center on the main square to get directions) starting from the city center that required a significant descent into the valley below. That descent puts you in Holecek Park(named for the famous writer) and from there you can go on an enjoyable walk up a fairly steep hill to visit this historic religious site. This magnificent Baroque edifice also is some times referred to as the Catholic Pilgrimage Church Klokoty as well as the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Monastery Church at Klokoty as noted above. I think this is the main reason that this site wasn't listed on TA until now.
Unlike many of the great churches that you can see in Europe this architectural gem remains in a relatively untouched countryside location but easily reached by foot or car. Anyone who has gone to the top of the Kotnov Tower in Tabor has likely seen but not recognized this church when they looked towards the hillsides northwest of the city center.
This church dates to around 1700 and the addition of cloisters,chapels, etc led to its distinctive "double cross" appearance.
The church, grounds & cemetery can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace depending on your particular interests.
Since both the church and monastery are active there will be restrictions on when you can visit based on services and other religious considerations so checking with the information center on the main square would be most advisable in my opinion since after visiting this wonderful complex I couldn't find a web site that was solely devoted to this site.

Jan Zizka Monument is an statue located in the centre of Town Square (Zizkovo Namesti) of Tabor, a city in the Bohemian Region in Czech Republic. He was a leader of hussites, a Pre-Protestant Christian movement, which fought against the imposed Catholic religion in Middle Ages to reform it. One of the most important places of Hussites was the city of Tabor, where there is the Museum in the Town Hall and this statue in Town Square. So interesting to learn about the history of Central Europe.

I visited this castle recently and the best part about it are the views from the tower which gives you quite nice views of tabor and the surrounding area. There is also a small museum that is worth a look. One of the best attractions in Tabor.

The many cellars in Tabor around the square have been linked by tunnels. As you go round you see displays of what life was like here. The tour was in Czech, however. An English language handout helped a bit but obviously we missed out on a lot of information (despite the very helpful guide giving a few sentences in English from time to time).

Tabor is town of Husites founded in 1420 yr by Husites as town, where all residents be equal.They had own army-Taborite.In 1437 Tabor named Royal town.You can see there many monuments of past and Husitske museum.In City Hall you can enter Tabor underground.From a tower You can see historic part of town.Several km from Tabor=Kozi Hradek ruins, where Jan Hus stayed and finished his"Pastila"book.Tabor has many lakes ,and is paradise for fishermen and cyclists.In area is also river Luznice,-used for recreation and water sports.Very near is also castle on the water=Cervena Lhota-open daily 9.30-17.00 pm in season.You can get there by bus from Tabor to Sobeslav=19 km-then take local bus to Cervena Lhota.Best would be rental car.

Small Zoo but some interesting animals like, Lions, Tigers, bears, wolfs, monkeys and Meerkats. Good thing is that some of the enclosures look like how their natural environment would(bears & stags) and you can get very close to all of them which is great for the kids.
The rest of the animals are mostly farm animals and wild boar, Birds and a good collection of Owls but my small children loved it.
Would be good if they advertised at the entrance somewhere that there was actually a restaurant as we only found this at the end.
Refreshment prices are a bit steep but free parking so cant win em all :)
Would really only recommend this zoo if in the area as we were to see the caves so it made more of the trip.

Due to the warm season I could not admire the filled watebasin. This Reservoir was founded 1492 when the Košínský Creek (Tismenice) was dammed. Around 1508 the water of the Jordán was pumped by different Mills, standing along the eastern part of the city walls, to the 32 m above the water surface water tower from where it was channelled via pipes to the various city Fountains and wooden water pumps. The original wooden pump powered by water, according to documents in 1569, was replaced by a new wooden pump. For a better functioning of the levels of the Reservoir locks were built in 1693, preserved are three of such locks made of wooden planks which were operated manually. Early 18th century the dam was equipped with railings which were regularly corrected and increased in 1817. In 1873 the wooden pump was replaced by an iron one. Water pumping came to an end in 1886. Seen from the eastern city walls one can see only about a third of the water surface of this Reservoir. Originally built as a water Reservoir, subsequently used for fish farming, today used for recreation and water sports. Under the dam at the Tismenici Creek is the 18 m high Jordán waterfall located, at the Košínské Creek lying just before the Jordán is a small Reservoir called Malý Jordán (small Jordán). 30 June 1992 the Jordán Reservoir was declared cultural monument, since 1995 it is property of city Tábor, 2001 reconstruction of the dam.
