Apulia Bike Tours it's an incoming travel agency specialized in bike touring and cycling holidays for Puglia e Basilicata in southern of Italy.
I have just completed the 9 day/8 night 'sassi to salento' bike tour and let me just say that it was absolute magic from start to finish. I have been travelling nonstop for 7 months and have had many great experiences, however this wonderful bike tour is easily, and by far, the best thing I've done!!
Firstly, the company owner Manuel is lovely, efficient, accommodating and flexible. The booking process was an absolute breeze as Manuel answered all my emails almost immediately, and happily removed the first and last nights' accomodation for me as I had pre-existing accommodation in those towns. Manuel also kept on contact in the lead up to the tour, so that I knew the meet-up arrangements for the start of the tour. I was already impressed with Manuel's customer service, however was absolutely amazed to learn that the bike tour would only be myself and one other participant with the guide, due to other participants cancelling two weeks prior! Manuel explained to us that he knew we had already made arrangements to travel for the tour, and therefore was not prepared to cancel the tour altogether despite it being just two participants. I know many other businesses would cancel in these circumstances and I think this is an excellent representation of this company's work ethos and customer care!
Finally to the tour itself. Amazing does not even cover it. The bikes were excellent quality and very comfortable, with pannier bags, gel seat covers and helmets all provided. The luggage is expertly delivered to the accommodation each day, and the accommodation itself is luxurious in every location! I booked the three-star accommodation option (there is also a four -star option) but found myself double checking exactly which option I chose, just because the accommodation was so wonderful everywhere we went! This brings me to the absolutely best part of our tour - our fearless leader, Mario! Quite simply one of the loveliest people I have ever met, Mario was a wonderful guide who quite simply made the trip. Funny, thoughtful, caring and knowledgeable, Mario proudly showed off beautiful Puglia and helped us to experience it at its best! Picking us wild fruits on the side of the road, showing us hidden treasures everywhere we went, and introducing us to typical regional dishes at morning tea and lunch each day! In fact, he even took us to his home for morning tea one day when we rode through his home town, and we were privileged to meet his lovely parents and dog! These are moments you don't forget!
The itinerary itself is wonderful, with everyday a new and exciting adventure with new towns to visit and breathtaking scenery. The destination towns each day are wonderful but the journey to get there is of course the best part, with the routes predominantly on secondary roads filled with olive trees, fruit trees and vineyards or stunning coastal views. Basically it is like riding through the Italy of your dreams! I just loved this tour. It exceeded all my expectations and was just one of those things that I will remember forever. It was perfect in every way and I can only hope to return and do this tour again in the future!
Grazie, grazie mille per tutti, Mario, Manuel, Costantino e Francesco!

This gastro pub offers excellent food and a great selection of beers and ciders. Here the authentic Irish style is mixed with the best Italian cuisine. Thumbs up for the Old Porter!

My wife and I have been buying fresh pasta from Al Mattarello for well over thirty years!! They are an incredible family-owned business making a variety of fresh homemade pastas. While they've grown tremendously over the years, to include international sales, you can still buy from the same small shop in San Vito Dei Normanni. Every time we've lived outside of San Vito, we've had family and friends stop buy Mattarello and buy us pasta before their visits...suitcases full ;-) They vacuum pack the pasta for travelling and you can then freeze it for use later on. Absolutely the best...well worth the visit!!

These guys managed to have my gf to get drunk on cocktails!!! And she never drink!! Their vodka sour is spectacular. I remember this corner of old town was off limits but now is buzzing thanks to this new bar. Well done guys!! Keep up with the good work!

Unfortunately we were unable to go inside as it was closed but had a lovely cup of coffee in the square outside and admired the beautiful church - particularly the rose coloured stone

Stupenda basilica sito nel cuore di san vito dei normanni. Esterno alquanto anonimo, si rischia di passarci di fianco e non accorgersi di nulla. Interni molto belli da visitare.
