Once upon the time around 1990 there was a master confectioner who thought that all the existing chocolate creations on the market are simply a little bit too boring. So after business hours he started to explore in the quietness of his company’s back room...
I had the most delightful time touring the chocolate factory. It was welcoming and clean. It was so much fun to taste as much chocolate as one might want. I was impressed by the fair trade chocolate, the organic production and the large variety of chocolates produced. It should be noted this is not a tour for handicapped persons as there are many many stairs to climb. Loved every minute of the tour. Do not miss.

Nice location for events as they organise medieval time themed events with knights and craftsmen show, music, sharpshooting, etc. But the castle itself has little to offer as a sight. They have about 5 rooms which are open to the public to see and experience castle life as in the other part of the castle the family still lives.

On three stories and across 1.000m², visitors to the world of the finest smoked hams will be captivated as they learn everything there is to know about the secrets behind these nobel delicacies, secrets they can learn first-hand on tours through discrete areas of production, processing, and maturing techniques: From the large smoked ham made of stainless steel at the entrance to the welcoming lobby, the arcadet sidewalk, the pig stalls, and the regional assortment of delicacies to the one-of-a-kind room designed to stimulate your senses with creative exhibits and swinging smoked hams. The adjacent smoked ham bar, the specialities store, and arched cellar area ensure that everything here will appeal to your palate. As a particularly interesting "extra" visitors will be greeted right at the beginning by Vulcana, the symbol of Vulcano, designed and painted by Dominika Kalcher, and whose story can be heard in a film narration by Folke Tegetthoff. The sensory nature of the information will surprise your eyes, ears, nose, and will certainly serve to prepare you for the right taste. Enjoy the origin.

This massive fortress has stood since the early 12th century.
As you approach the castle you understand why one or another sort of fortification has been in this location for thousands of years. The high block of granite in the middle of undulating fields obviously begged for something like this, especially given the embattled nature of the area. OK and yes I love the fact that a woman had such a critical role in expanding and defending this castle - and an uppity, self-confident woman at that. Can only imagine the obstacles she had to overcome to rule over a castle in her own name in the 17th century? Apparently she was quite a famous local eccentric - went through three husbands - fortified the castle during the Turkish invasion into a structure that was termed the "most impressive fortification in Christendom". On a less cool note, the castle also hosts an exhibit about witches and their persecution, also in the 17th century. One victim was the wife of the castle caretaker, who apparently knew about healing plants and was known as the "flower witch." Could not find out if she was killed, only that she was accused...a sad chapter. Important to know: if you are not up to the steep climb, there is a gondola to take you up.

Riegersburg in the heart of Styria is theorigin of the fine distillates and vinegarsproduced by Alois Gölles. In this sunny region– predestined for growing fruit – 70%of Austria’s apples are harvested. But ittakes more than a large quantity of finefruit to provide the distiller and vinegarmaker with the prerequisites he needs forproducing these outstanding distillatesand vinegars: it also requires a wide varietyof types of fruit. In the area surroundingthe Gölles Distillery & Vinegar Productionancient and rare varieties of apples, pears and plums are cultivated, and outstandingwild varieties of fruit are alsoavailable. The collection of vinegars and brandiesis wide-ranging, including such traditionalproducts as plum brandy and apple vinegaras well as creative compositions suchas quince brandy and tomato vinegar.
well organized shop with lots of family products of high quality - so the prices are very high as well! We didnt go for a tour and there are is not much info available in English. You can test some of the products. The shop atendants were polite but not very attentive - it is all about bussines, so you cant feel the family touch any more...

We visited with our 2 young (10 and 12) children and we all loved it. The show takes about an hour, is very well put together and informative. The castle itself is quit spectacular as well, with beautiful views across the South Styrian countryside.

We had a nice tasting and brought away quite a bit of cheese.
My complaint is that the tasting samples were really small and I thought that if they really want to promote their cheese better, the tasting should be more attractively priced. So I had a slightly overcharged feeling.
But the cheese is definitely good.

Beautiful place with interesting history. A guided tour takes approximately 1 hour and then you can visit garden with the oldest graveyard of dogs in Austria. As this castle and close Hardegg are owned by one family, you can get one ticket for better price to visit both of them. Unfortunately, taking photos inside the castle is banned.

Gastronomie top - superfreundlich! War ein unglaublich schöner Tag!
