Looking at the map and planning the next few days it would have been very easy to skip. But you don't guess how cool this place is until you actually see it. Unfortunately, the ski area had closed literally the day before because of unseasonable heat. It was 4C at the base of the ski area. We still took the tram up to see the glacier and it was very pretty. The road is an absolute blast to ride. Bicycles and motorcycles everywhere. And some camper vans. Don't miss it.

Palazzo Vertemate Franchi

The palace is a very beautiful masterpiece of the Renaissance immersed in a charming environment, which provides real life story of a sixteenth-seventeenth-century aristocratic family. The front is simple and essential, surrounded by light and functional spaces as well as the Italian garden with the fishpond and the double exedra-shaped banister.Besides there is the orchard, the vineyard, the chestnut wood and a succession of country and simple buildings for the running of the farms.

Highly recommended as a stopover or short excursion from Chiavenna. The building was originally constructed as a hunting castle. After a giant landslide destroyed most of the local town, it was used as a main residence. The rustic exterior belies the opulent interior with rich wood carvings, paintings, furniture, etc. The tour is fun and brings the history of the palace to life.

Il Parco delle Incisioni Rupestri di Grosio e Castello Visconti Venosta

The Rock Engraving Park (Parco Incisioni Rupestri) is an Archaeological Park situated in Grosio and Grosotto, two villages in the valley Valtellina in the north of Italy (Region of Lombardy). The park was founded in 1978 to conserve, study and develop the Cultural Heritage on the Dosso dei Castelli (Castle Hill).

My girlfriend and I were lucky enough to borrow a car from a friend and check out this spot this past August. It's free, for starters, which is nice, and is set slightly up the slope from the town of Grosio. There is a small office with information on the park and a person to answer any questions (a good time to practice your Italian). The rock face with all the iron age carvings is a beautiful piece of rock south facing. You can walk all over it after you take your shoes off to find the carvings. It's a bit difficult to find them at first, especially if it's flat light, but use the map they have off to one side, and you'll get them eventually. There's an old castle to see as well and several trails that head up the Mountains if you're feeling adventurous. Highly recommended.

Cascate dell'Acqua Fraggia

Reviewed By adsbaruf - Sydney, Australia

If driving, a road well worth travelling is from St. Moritz through Valchiavenna and the surrounding valley, down to Lake Como. It starts with bends and hairpin turns, but so picturesque, it’s hard to describe how the scenery changes from viewing lakes, rolling hills and snow-capped Mountains both near and far from the roadside, to Mountains that seem to change shape with each passing kilometre. There are several small towns or villages along the way if you need or want to stop. One spot worth stopping at is the waterfall known as the Cascate Acqua Fraggia at Piuro – follow the signs and there are usually other people stopping there also. There’s an area to park and then take a short walk to the waterfall. We were there in September, which was a good time of year and it offered great photo opportunities, although almost any season would be worth a visit.

Forte Venini di Oga - Valdisotto

Reviewed By Onlygoodfoods - Bologna, Italy

Curios place, with an amazing view. Advice to take a ride in the area and entering the museum. Also not far to walk you will find the Paluaccio Oga (The important nature reserve (some 30 hectares) known as "Paluaccio di Oga" lies around Forte Venini a humid peaty area characterised by dome-shaped sphagnum (bog moss) alternatin with small water puddles. The typical peat-bog vegetation is rich with very rares species. Vaste pine, spruce, larch and stone pinewoods surround the marsh. The specific features of Paluaccio di Oga are really unusual for our alpine regions, and that adds to its scietific value.)
