We (including our two dogs) thoroughly enjoyed our time spent here. There's a range of walks and cycle paths for all levels of fitness and the scenery is breathtaking. We stopped off at the visitor's centre for coffee and a piece of apple shortcake, which was devine, after our walk. We really enjoyed the experience.

An 'oldy worldly' museum with some incredibly passionate and knowledge staff. The gems themselves are impressive and the 'cave' display is fun but thought it would really benefit from some more displays on the geological explanation behind how these are made. The explanations are there but they aren't as accessible as they might be from a more modern display. That said, your knowledge gap can be closed by just chatting to the staff. The quiz for the kids was good and the prize of a small stone or dinosaur bone was superb (highlight for the kids).
A note is that the shop is superb, arguably better than the museum. Some great bargains as well as impressive decorative mineral art.

Having driven from Barr over the forest road, we looked forward to visiting Glentrool but frankly found it very disappointing with little information about the area.

Founded in 1192 by Roland, Earl of Galloway the magnificent ruins of this Cistercian Abbey are some of the best preserved in Scotland. A fantastic example of a well-preserved fragment of 13th century Cistercian church architecture, Glenluce Abbey occupies a site of great natural beauty in the tranquil and secluded valley of the Water of Luce. The remains include an impressive early 16th century chapter house and a museum of monastic life showcasing the fascinating collection of artefacts found during clearance work. The cloister is less well preserved but the overall layout of the domestic quarters can be followed. Over the years the abbey's historic visitors have included Robert the Bruce, James IV and Mary Queen of Scots. Follow in their footsteps as you explore the ruins and the thought provoking setting.
Glenluce Abbey is one of the least complete abbeys in the area (Dundrennan, Sweetheart), but it is still interesting. The best thing about our visit was the flowers growing in profusion on the ruins. Even though we visited during Historic Scotland posted hours, there was nobody in the office or on the grounds to answer questions.

We have a large hire fleet to cater for all ages and styles of cycling from bike seats and trailers for the wee ones to electric bikes for those who like to take things a little easier. We have mountain bikes ideal for the near by trails and hybrids perfect for the quiet country lanes and cycle routes. All our bike hires come with free helmet and lock hire and we're happy to offer route advice.
Would highly recommend. We wanted to hire bikes for the afternoon, 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Very warm welcome and could cater for exactly what we wanted, an easy ride with nice scenery. Had a lovely ride with great views, loved the secret waterfall. Great value and could clearly cater for all ages and experience.

Then on to the larger fish at a new location...MoreMany thanks for your feed back - we are glad you had an enjoyable trip on our charter boat.
