Whithorn (Taigh Mhàrtainn in Gaelic) is a former royal burgh in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, about ten miles south of Wigtown. The town was the location of the first recorded Christian church in Scotland, Candida Casa : the 'White [or 'Shining'] House', built by Saint Ninian about 397.

Had some beautiful mussels and a gorgeous lasagne from here. Very reasonably priced food for exceptional quality. I have been to restaurants nowhere near as good and paid far more. The place was rammed on a Wednesday night which says it all really. You always need to book in advance here. It seems to have gone even better since the change of ownership. Welcoming, courteous and friendly staff and a very varied and high quality menu offering food from a range of cuisines. Would always recommend.

We stayed in Isle of Whithorn for a week and ate every night bar Sunday (when we had a great Sunday lunch at the Steam Packet) The sea food is excellent and diverse very fresh and do not miss Thursdays steak night (very good steaks and a sauce for £12). The staff are great and very helpful thanks to Alistair and his team. The icing on the cake is that they have their own micro brewery which produces excellent beers. I would highly recommend this pub/restaurant

Cafe offers great food, their haggis and smoked cheese ciabatta was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the centre. The museum and priory ruins were amazing.
Then the reconstruction of the iron age round house was fantastic, the guide (sorry can't remember her name) was so informative and obviously loved her job.
The whole experience was wonderful

Evening meal with our family between Christmas and New Year. Superb with the normal cheerful service of Laura behind the bar, the ever pleasant Wendy in the dining room and Head Chef Grant in the 'engine room'. Just managed to dine here before the end of January, this time; Laura pleasantly and cheerfully multi-tasking from behind the bar into the dining room and on this occasion, Dylan (metaphorically of course) wearing the 'Toque blanche'. 'Chef's Special' of Chicken in a Chilli and Garlic sauce with stir-fried vegetables really 'hit the spot'. Dined every month here during 2017 and with good fortune the same will apply throughout 2018. Good value, good food but above all, pleasant service.

Finalist for Dumfries and Galloway Life Restaurant of the Year 2016 The Pheasant has something special to offer. The Pheasant is situated in the small village of Sorbie and offers a unique dining experience in the heart of Galloway. Andrea Cuomo, chef and owner born and bred in Naples, cooking reflects his upbringing submerged in the rich food culture of Italy. The menu is a combination of authentic Italian dishes inspired by his home kitchen in Naples as well as innovative recipes featuring an interesting twist. Customers can relax in the eclectic lounge with log fire, enjoy a casual lunch or pre-dinner drink before going to the table in the modern rustic styled dining room with bespoke lighting, driftwood bar and original artwork. We offer friendly, attentive service, an elegant, warm and cosy atmosphere and passion for food, all making The Pheasant visit a memorable one.
This was a really lucky find for us, due to an accident diversion I spotted the sign for an Italian restaurant at the side of the road, and my daughter does love pasta, so we booked a table.
We arrived and parked in the dark carpark and entered through a side door which was not brilliant, because we thought oh no another scruffy little pub trying to be a restaurant, but when we entered our impressions imeatdiately changed it was so cosy and well decorated with driftwood and reclaimed furniture we felt at ease straight away.
We were then greated with a happy hello from the Italian chef/owner from the kitchen.
We were seated straight away even though we were early. The bar has a great choice of drinks which we enjoyed to start with. The menu is small, as everything is freshly prepared not from a microwave, but the food was of a very good quality done to the chefs liking, which means some ingredients had a slightly different take to what we were used to, but fresh and they worked well, the meatloaf was delicious.
And to finish a small menu of Italian farmhouse kitchen Deserts and coffees.
All in all such a good little restraunt in the middle of the countryside.
Great for couples, groups and families, I didn't see a kids menu but there may be one.
We will be returning here definitely.
