Granted, it was a perfectly sunny, warm day with calm waters but this beach is a hidden gem. Rocky beach but the water was crystal clear, cold but worth stepping into. You could picnic on the rocks or up top on the grassy overlook. Good for all ages but don't expect sand. Oh yeah - and don't take rocks away with you.

We had reserved 2-nights in one of their 2 pull through, full service sites. No staff are on site, except maintenance personnel. On arrival, we noted a tag on a site with our name and dates. Problem was another coach was in the site and nobody was home.
We couldn't fit in any other site, so had to get a refund and continue down the road. We subsequently received a nice apology and offer of a complimentary site during our next visit.
The area is very quiet and the lake is scenic. Most disappointed, as we were looking forward to 2 days relaxing.
Assigned 4 stars, as the area is beautiful and they did respond effectively.

A beautiful fine sand beach with lots of driftwood, clear water and zero crowds.
A short drive down a gravel road. There are washroom facilities. There are several large rocks that can be walked to in the lake that are great places to relax and tan.
Quiet and scenic.

In about twenty kilometers of Marathon is Mink Creek Falls. Small tortuous path in the middle of nowhere surrounded with a fall in the speeds of Waterfalls. A beautiful place to unwind legs...

The Marathon and District Museum showcases the areas unique history. Since the building of the rail in 1881 Marathon has had an exciting history. Once known as the "wickedest town in the North" and being surrounded by POW camps for German POW's as well as interned Japanese Canadians, the museum is sure to have something to interest everyone. Feature exhibits include the pulp mill and gold mines.
A nice little museum with a very knowledgeable docent that provides a good understanding of Marathon's history. There are also a number of interesting displays and photographs from their bygone era.

Have stopped here twice now while camping... The grocery store had everything we needed for restocking , and the staff were amazing... our cashier was bilingual & chatted en francais with my husband, and then 3 weeks later when we stopped in on our return trip, she remembered us ! The lovely girl stocking shelves gave us perfect directions to pebble beach & was so lovely & helpful. The mall in general had everything we needed & friendly staff to top it off !

The first part of the trail is a little frustrating as it is so chewed up and muddy as it is likely a shared ATV trail. However further in it is more a hiking trail with a nice slow climb to the top and a pretty view. Can be a little confusing as it also connects with the voyageur trail but the signage is pretty good and voyageur trail would be worth exploring as well.

We stopped by the boat ramp quite by accident. We just wanted to see what was left of the mill and then we just thought, let's follow this road. No mistake here. It was a lovely stop. Lots of parking! Located on the coast of Lake Superior and starting at the Boat Launch, this trail offers a great walking experience along the Marathon waterfront. Hikers should use caution as some areas
can be challenging and rocks can be slippery.
