Yet another lovely old town on Lake Garda, Malcesine is an elegant resort at the base of Castello Scaligero. Enjoy a leisurely day of shopping in town (making sure to stop at an outdoor café with a lake view), or if you’re getting restless, take a cable car to Monte Baldo for skiing in winter or challenging hiking in summer.

We visited Lake Garda with our 12 year old son who is very lively and thought canyoning looked like a good option for the afternoon. I booked over the phone whilst on holiday on the Monday for the Wednesday afternoon and everything went like clockwork. Our guide Adi was fab. We chose the 'Grumpenfieber' which was just right for a 42, 43 and 12 year old. The canyoning was superb, set in stunning surroundings. You do need a certain level of fitness as the walk up to the start is fairly challenging in a 5mm wetsuit, but well worth it. We all agreed it was the best thing we did on our holiday and worth the money. If you fancy doing something a bit different definitely give it a go.

Hard working, friendly and dedicated team. First class North equipment (boards & kites). They take you upwind in the lake so that even if you drift downwind you are re-assured that you are drifting back towards the start and not away!
The wind in Garda is like clockwork and the kiting is superb.
Morning sessions start at 6:45 and you are on the water early with a big session generally on 9m kites. Launching from a boat is far easier that i expected.
We were with Nico who was really cool and laid back & great company.
Only negative point was that at one point the boss (Robbie) lost his temper because our instructor forgot the pump and he shouted at the crew saying 'you fxxxed up - cancel the session and reimburse the clients'. Wasnt a very constructive attitude, but perhaps it was just the early morning start. Fortunately a solution was found, our session wasnt cancelled and indeed we returned for a second amazing session.

You can drive up to Montecastello but we decided to walk . There is a little sanctuary at the bottom of the hill with a beautiful painting. Then as you begin the walk uphill there are the shrines depicting the Mysteries of the Rosary. The staircase to the sanctuary was constructed in 1599.You can go behind the altar to see frescoes etc . There is a cafe just before the entrance as you will need a drink once you reach the sanctuary.

We absolutely love this narrow road up to the village of pieve overlooking the lake. It looks scary but is perfectly safe and is as impressive as the amalfi drive. In fact they've taken a lot of the hair raising aspect out of this road with new tunnels and traffic lights. You should have seen it 30 years ago!

Just got off the boat from Malcesine and wandered through the narrow streets when I saw a sign and followed up the hill. Really worth a visit for a few Euro to this renovated Lemon tree Terrace 'farm.' Let's you in on a few secrets and info on the surrounding architecture with super views. Had a really nice atmosphere and escape the crowds in the own centre.

Malcesine is a wonderful little town on the shores of Lake Garda in Northern Italy. The castle sits on a craggy prominence and one can get a good view of the lake from the top of the tower. The entree fee wasn't bad and you get to wander all around the place. The first castle built here was in the late 700s as part of Charlemagne's empire but there is an archeo dig going on just behind the castle that appears to be from the earlier Roman times. If you are in the area, you should go visit it and spend some time in the town. Several good restaurants.

It's free and it's really nice to learn some of the history of Limone. Lovely to see how the hotels and buildings of Limone are constructed from the old citrus greenhouses left behind after the industry declined. Loads of history in three languages - English, German and Italian. Doesn't take long but well worth a visit.

Great views or at least i would guess they are if not for the clouds.
There were no queues when we went up the lift but it was the end of season and the weather wasn't great.
I would love to go back up when the weather is better.
