Luque (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈlu.ke]) is a city in Central Department of Paraguay, part of the Gran Asunción metropolitan area. Both 1635 and 1750 have been recorded as dates of its founding. It was temporarily the capital of Paraguay in 1868 during the Paraguayan War before relocation to San Estanislao. It is located at around 25°16′12″S 57°29′14″W / 25.27000°S 57.48722°W / -25.27000; -57.48722. Luque is one of the most important cities in the country. The city counts as home of Paraguay's main international airport, Silvio Pettirossi International Airport and the Ñu Guasú Park, which is where the Paraguayan Olympic Committee is also located. The continental governing body of association football in South America, CONMEBOL, has its headquarters approximately 3 minutes from the Airport, consisting of the South American Football Museum and walking distance from the Bourbon CONMEBOL Asunción Convention Hotel. When it existed, ARPA – Aerolíneas Paraguayas had its headquarters in the ARPA Terminal on the grounds of the airport. It is a center of production of Guitars and Paraguayan harps as well as Filigranas, gold and silver filigree jewelry including the seven-band ring Carretón de Siete Ramales. On 27 January 2016, Paraguayan Newspaper La Nación had reported that Carlos Echeverría Estigarribia, the elected intendent of the city of Luque, states his intention of wanting Luque to be one of the most important cities.

That this is voted the #1 thing to do and see in Asuncion by TripAdvisor travellers should be enough to guide you away from Paraguay's capital. It's a shopping centre. It isn't even a very good one. There are two reasons to visit at all and one is air conditioning and the other is free wifi. That's it. There's a Pizza Hut, a Burger King and some very non-descript clothes shops, plus lots of outlets selling mobile phones. There is virtually nothing to do in Asuncion for tourists, so I can see how desperate travellers are to review something, but good grief.

As the home of the S. American Futbol Association, it has quite a lot of key trophys and memorabilia. Seeing the various cups and the photos, jerseys and films of South American soccer greats was very interesting. Worth a visit!

The Museum is open until January 9th. It will be closed for maintenance. Re oppening: February 10th. El Museo abrirá hasta el 9 de Enero. Se mantendrá cerrado por mantenimiento. Reapertura: 10 de Febrero.
If you manage to get there (it's a bit tricky), Museo del Barro is the best museum in Asuncion, and definidely deserves your visit. It's a new exhibition complex including different collections under a single roof, plus special exhibition space, and a shop. The permanent collection includes historical/ethnical pieces from Paraguay, with a stunning assortment of ritual masks. The area I enjoyed most was the pottery collection with extraordinary pieces from the different pre-Columbian cultures of South America. There is also an interesting area of religious art and artifacts.

This is a great place for relaxation and Reading a good book. Don't let anybody fool you about the "beach" in the name. Yes, there is a nice sandy strech of water, but the water is so flithy that you wouldn't want to put a toe inside. We knew this upfront, which is why we weren't disappointed when we got there.

Estádio fechado, aparentemente sem ninguém para informar quando se fazem as visitas. De fora, parece um recinto esportivo como outro qualquer.
