Organized like National or State Parks in North America, with large parking lots, picnic area, restaurant, visitor center, bathrooms.
We enjoyed watching wildlife throughout the day, and started we a guided tour without additional fee. Trails are very well maintained with a dozen watching areas where park rangers will answer any question and offer their binocular to better watch the birds. They are every knowledgeable and passionate for wildlife. We had a really great day in this park.

Guide Somme Bay welcomes you to explore the Somme Bay area! Come experience an adventure at the end of the world across the Bay of Somme, observe the largest seal colony of France and hundreds of migratory birds. Somme Bay area is also a land of shifting light weather beauties. Welcome.
Although the weather circumstances last Saturday were really terrible, Maxim took care for a very interesting tour in the Bay. He's very passionate, enthusiastic and wants to share a lot of his knowledge with his 'audience'. His very open communication and kindness give a very good feeling. He's absolutely worth a recommendation !!

The CWGC Noyelles-sur-Mer Chinese Cemetery is located within the area of the French village of Noyelles-sur-Mer. It contains the graves of Chinese workers who were employed as labour by the British Army during the First World War. It is the largest Chinese cemetery in France and Europe. During the First World War, Noyelles sheltered an important British rear base which became the base camp for Chinese civilian labourers. These men were recruited by the British Army in 1916 as part of the Chinese Labour Corps to handle tasks behind the Allied Lines. They were in charge of difficult and dangerous tasks such as digging trenches, clearing the Battlefields of ammunition and bodies, laundering, and providing medical care for the sick soldiers, in particular those with Spanish flu.In 1921, the British government decided to build the Chinese Cemetery in Noyelles-sur-Mer. This cemetery was constructed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission who continue to care for it today.
This isn't unusual because of its serene beauty, but because of the backstory. It's the resting place of 800+ Chinese indentured (slave) labourers that were killed after an agreement between the British and French governments and Chinese warlords in 1916. While not fighting, over 100,000 were "employed" in building Railways, earthworks, clearing the Battlefields, etc. Many died after the war through influenza. The small cemetery has the usual Edwin Lutyens beauty, and is pervaded by Chinese symbolism, so is quite unusual and well worth seeking out if you are in the area.

The House of the Somme Bay is a museum that presents the evolution of the Bay of 2 millennia and the various challenges it faces ( siltation , erosion) . You will also discover all the natural environments of the Picardy coast and birds that live there in striking reproduction of realism. One room is dedicated to the presence of seals in the bay . Finally, an external path allows you to better understand the wetlands. On site picnic area , local shop , observation post , coffee machine .
We had the place to ourselves one November afternoon, which, together with the autumnal weather, gave a certain end-of-the-world feeling. There is much to commend here; in addition to being a wildlife sanctuary, a good attempt is made at being an educational facility, though it helps if you speak French. The ancillary facilities are disappointing, notably the absence of a café, especially as this is in the middle of nowhere.

I did not know before this trip just how beautiful the "Baie de Somme" is. It is true, we were very lucky with the weather, three straight days of Sunshine, warm not hot. One could be tempted to think that under these circumstances each and every activity would just be fun. Maybe.
But the pirogue tour with Yves was the absolute highlight of our stay, definitely much more than just fun. It was perfect from the beginning to the end. Yves managed to make all of us (four girls from 10 to 14 and a dad) feel at ease, learn and enjoy. We would definitely again do a tour with Yves. Highly recommended!

Les Bateaux de la Baie offers a commented discovery of the Bay of Somme aboard these CDT Charcot III and IV boats, departing from St Valery almost all the year, and Crotoy from April to September. We also organize discovery treap of the Bay of Somme and watching seals aboard a semi-rigid 12-seater.The departure times are subject to the tide and are therefore different every day
Lovely trip out to the end of the estuary & back (40 mins, €12 & 8). The company does a combined ticket to Crotoy, boat out & steam train back which we would've taken if we hadn't done the same trip by train a few days earlier. Would recommend this trip but shame the commentary was only in French. Would be nice if they had a written English version or a once weekly spoken one. C'est la vie

Do you know the long-cost? an activity that offers the seaside as gym? Dressed in suits, they cross the beach towards the water. Without slowing, they dig it and begin to move while chatting. An illuminated troop? No, it comes along-coastal! Perhaps you've already met on a beach in Brittany or Atlantic. complete sport and suitable for all, regardless of age and level of sport, he is practiced in any season.
We visited Le Crotoy whilst staying in the Sonme area. Wjat a delightful place. It reminded me of small seaside resorts when I was a child!!! There was a mariner, beautiful stretch of beach and a lovely Promenade. There are also plenty of places to eat. "Past Times" can be recalled with the "hook a duck" stall and quirky childrens' rounabout!!! The resort was very busy with a number of coach trips calling there.

Have visited St Valery for a number of years. A pretty little fishing town with many restaurants and quaint shops with cobbled streets. Plenty of walks with fantastic views of the bay. In May, you can see the seals sunning themselves and swimming in the bay.
At certain times of the year, when the tide is out, you can walk across the bay to le Crotoy opposite, but only with the trained guides as I believe there is quicksand.
