The largest market square of the provinces and the largest medieval square in Denmark. Establih back in the 1200s.
The market provides the setting for market sale of all kinds of items on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8 to 15. you will find many good shops and cozy cafes.
Especially on the east side you find buldings with narrow facades. The reason why is because the owner had to pay tax according to the facade length.
A beautiful statue of Frederik VII in the centre of square, Denmark's oldest acting town Hall (1552) is situated here.

It is situated on a field west of Køge close to the village called Lellinge and recovered in 2014. It is an archaeological sensation when even a Viking castle is discovered. The news went around the world, and the discovery was named among the 10 greatest archaeological discoveries in the world. The circular castle has been named Borg Ring and is the fifth of the so-called Trelleborg type. A so called "ring forts", build with a supposed military purposes in Denmark during the Viking era and are dated to about 980. The new Viking fortress is 145 meters in diameter and probably built by Harald Bluetooth.
It was officially opened by Queen Margrethe Monday, May 30 . From 1 June to 31 August is the attraction open to the public, which one can follow the archaeologists' work on.
From a new welcome center (a container centre), a small exhibition and a viewing platform leads a new path around 600 meters to the excavation.
Including in the prize is a pair of virtual reality glasses for your smartphone. I suggest to download the free app before the visit and do some Reading before the visit. There is a free wifi in the welcome centre.
The excavation will be going on for four years and therefor stop in autumn 2018 and the area will be reestablish as before. There is only open to the public three month a year, June to August, where the archaeologists are working on the site. Each year they will move their around the area and therefor one will have the opportunity to see new things.
Once a day there will be a free guided tour. Unlucky we arrive half an hour to late to attend the tour at 11 o'clock (weekdays). And the archaeologist were on their lunch break! Because of a fine sunny day it was difficult (or impossible) to get the use of the virtual reality glasses; a cover with shadow would have been fine.

This tranquil park, a mere 6 km from Køge center, is the perfect place for a picnic, a stroll in the park itself or a walk in the surrounding woods. And if a swim in Køge Bay is desirable you can have it from the 'beach part' of the park.
The park is nicely kept, much due to the hard work done by a small band of volunteers from 'Solgårdsparkens Støtteforening' and even has a botanical garden surrounding a small pond.
The park is easily accessible by car/auto camper with a parking space right next to route 209 to Stevns Klint
You will find a bike path all the way from Køge to Solgårdsparken for those who'll prefer the exercise
