A unique Holy Land site known as the hometown of Mary Magdalene, located at the shores of the Sea of Galilee. The archaeological site features a complete first century town from the times of Jesus. It is one of Israel´s most recent archaeological discoveries with the best preserved Synagogue in the Galilee. Complementary tours of the site are available upon request. The site also features "Duc in Altum" a place for worship and prayer. Magdala is known as a crossroads of Jewish and Christian History, and will soon also feature a guesthouse in opening mid-2018.
Celine (our guide) was incredibly knowledgeable and seemed very excited about the information she was presenting, which added to the sheer beauty of the location. The way she was able to weave the history of the location into a contextual story helped make the experience holy and informative at the same time. I would love to be able to visit again in the future and see what else they have uncovered!

A vertical cliff towering magnificently over the Sea of Galilee and looking out towards the Golan Heights and Mt Hermon;
The weather was very nice and we enjoyed hiking the trail to the top. The history of the place is amazing and tragic for the Jewish people trying to escape the Romans. The way they hid in the side of the cliffs and the way the Romans finally killed them was sad. An example of the cages lowered over the edges by the Romans is at the entrance. Well worth the visit!!

Yardenit, the Baptismal site on the Jordan River, welcomes pilgrims and tourists from all over the world, to experience the beauty of Baptism or Re-Dedication in the pristine waters of the Jordan River. Entrance to the site is free. Yardenit offers separate Baptismal pools along the river, enabling pilgrims to comfortably conduct private worship ceremonies of Baptism or Re-dedication, in accordance with their particular beliefs and tradition.
Yardenit (Hebrew: ירדנית) Baptismal Site located along the beginning Jordan River, at the southern end of Sea of Galilee (a vast Freshwater lake), in northern Israel. Jordan River then flows south to Dead Sea. Kibbutz Kvutzat Kinneret owns and manages the site. According to Matthew 3:13-17, John baptized Jesus in Qasr el Yahud, north of the Dead Sea and east of Jericho. There is, however, no way Jesus was baptized here. Why? Sea of Galilee was about 100 feet deeper two millennia ago, and Jordan River flowing to Dead Sea would have been much further south.
Historically, the village of Al-Maghtas in Jordan—before political lines were drawn—documents the earliest religious structure connected with baptism/religious baths on the eastern side of Jordan River. During the Muslim Conquest (Arabic: الفتوحات الإسلامية, al-Futühät al-Islämiyya) beginning in 638AD, religious reverence shifted to Jordan River’s West Bank, though the Qasr el Yahud district was still under Muslim control. That changed during Israel’s 1967 Six-Day War. The Israeli Ministry of Tourism established Yardenit in 1981 as an alternate pilgrimage site, and Yardenit became Israel’s first regulated baptism site, where 400,000 visitors now witness baptisms. Make that 400,001 visitors☺ I was there the week of Christmas, when it appeared an entire year’s worth were here at one time☺
That said, this is a humbling experience. A woman from Nigeria (depicted in the accompany photo) cried from joy as she was lifted from the river.

The Ancient Galilee Boat was found a number of years ago, when the Galilee was at a very low water level. They have since built this elaborate exhibit around this old boat, telling you history of that time and the possible use of the boat. It's worth seeing.

Located on the Mount of Beatitudes, this octagonal church is interesting even if it's only been around for about 80 years. Many visitors use the church, and the nuns there will remind you to be reverent if you get too enthusiastic in your exclamations. It's in a beautiful setting, a place you would like to spend more time if there weren't so many people around.

This was the highlight for me...walking the area where Jesus lived during His ministry. So many must see locations were here. The sea of Galilee, Peters mother in laws house, Synagogue, old olive presses and lots of original stone work. Just too much to mention. Highly recommended.

This museum was built to preserve and display an ancient Galilee boat from the time of Jesus that was excated with the help of members of a local kibbutz located near Magdala. The boat measuring 27 feet long by 7.5 feet in width was discovered buried in the silt along the edge of the sea of Galilee. A coffer dam was built around the boat. It was floated by covering it with PEG for protection and spraying with fiberglass and polyurethane foam. After conservation and reconstruction, it is now on display at this museum along with a visual history of its discovery and archeology. The museum is fantastic and is a must see.

We were there on a glorious day along with a million other tourists. It was still a beautiful place to walk through the Gardens, enjoy the view of the sea and read the beatitudes posted along the walk. Quiet time here would be wonderful.
