Literally translated means 'cure for the eyes'
This is quite organized you have budget, mid range and high end rooms to stay and recuperate if required.
There is a canteen with no vegetarian fare unless you are lucky and get a portion of 'Kartushka frie'- potato finger chips or a salad.
It is very easy on the pocket. This 12 month destination, locals, Russians and tourists flock to it through out the year. It is a pleasure especially in winter with freezing temperatures and a warm pool to soak in.
There is a common pool with changing rooms, both men and women, no mixed bathing is allowed and changes every hour so you have to queue up pay and register your name and come back at the designated time.
There is also a private bathing pool more like an indoor swimming pool that you can book and use with a private shower and toilet,

A good place to do people watching and the restaurant in the corner by the river is an ideal spot for beer.

We took six days to travel from Khorog, Tajikistan, to Osh, Kyrgystan via the Vakhan Passage (more commonly called the Wakan Valley) and the Pamir Highway. We hired a guide and driver for the journey. As all accommodations are in home stays lacking in plumbing, electricity, and other amenities this adventure is not for the hygienicly squeamish, but it was truly phenomenal. The first two and half days follow the Panj River which separates Tajikistan from Afghanistan. We could actually throw rocks into Afghanistan at some points. Then the road turns north to meet up with the Pamir HIghway. We also added a stay at Bulunkul which we highly recommend. The scenery is jaw dropping - the Pany River, the HIndu Kush Mountains in Afghanistan, the green Valleys, the stark highlands, the Pamir Mountains. The people are so warm and hospitable. I cannot reccomend this trip highly enough.

I visited the lake on my way from Osh (Kyrgyzstan) to Murghab (Tajikistan), and we stopped there only for a few minutes. Clear blue lake, with many snow-topped Mountains seen in the background. Several nomad huts close-by. Very beautiful, isolated and impressive. An excellent way to start your journey in the Pamir region (for those like me who crossed the border from Kyrgyzstan). However, I don't think there is much to do over there for more than an hour or two. Maybe grab a simple lunch in one of the few home-stays, or take a stroll on the shore.

It isn't really a botanical garden anymore because 95% of the grounds are not maintained, it is rather a pleasant, quiet piece of forest and orchards. It has great potential. For the views climb to the ridge, then to the antennas, then a little bit down to the rock.
You can go there with the #3 mashrutka, then a bit of uphill hiking.

The village of Bulunkul is known as the place where the lowest temperature in Tajikistan was recorded, about -63 degrees Celsius, which is quite cold. The people there live in the most traditional way possible and observing their life is very interesting. The lake is beautiful.

The market is small but if you do not visit Afghanistan it is interesting to go there and see different faces and characters coming from the other side of the border. There is a place for food and the atmosphere is fun as many afghans come there to drink alcohol !

Agaim, a central plaza with many people coming and going. A good place to see the locals and the few tourists.
