Siida is a central meeting place in Inari, the heart of the Sami Area in Finland. It is a window on Sami culture and the diverse nature of Northern Lapland. At Siida, you can acquaint yourself with changing Exhibitions on culture, art and nature throughout the year. Siida offers the visitor both exciting experiences that appeal to many senses and expert knowledge. In the summer season, the indoor Exhibitions of Siida are complemented by the cozy open-air museum. In addition to Exhibitions, events that focus on culture and nature, as well as seminars, are arranged at Siida. At Siida, the National Museum of the Finnish Sami and the Nature Centre of Metsahallitus work together. The pleasant restaurant Sarrit serves customers on the second floor of Siida.
If you really want to learn about the Sami people this is the right place. A very thorough and profound exhibition that shows the history and the present life of the Sami, + the beautiful nature of Lapland. The staff is very nice and helpful. Definitely a must when in the area.

Hotel and Cabin accommodation & Safaris, based in Inari village, Lapland. We offer programs with Reindeer, Huskies, Snowmobiles, Snowshoes, Cross country skis as well as hiking tours, cruises and Fishing tours.
We spent 4 nights here with family (all
adults) and had an amazing time. All very well organised and good and really friendly communication beforehand. Had the half-board in the hotel, which was good and easy, as the meals fit well between activities.
Really convenient to be able to walk quickly between hotel and activity office.
The best part was, of course, seeing the aurora, but all the other activities were really excellent and such beautiful scenery. We went on a husky ride, evening ride with snowmobile, visited a sami village with snowmobile, a night walk (so cold! But amazing), learnt how to cross country ski and went on a reindeer sled-ride, so lots to do. Timings were good, there were drinks and snacks and interesting information from the guides. We had guide Anti for a couple of days and he was really great, very knowledgeable and good fun.
So, overall, really recommend Inari and the visit inari team.

I am Sámi reindeer herder Petri Mattus and I invite you to my home and reindeer farm to be mys family´s quest. On reservation you have a chance to join our everyday life for a little moment. During the winter months (Mid December - April) we offer our program, which takes you to the Wilderness in a sledge pulled by a snowmobile. Reservations reguired. Please, make a reservation at least the day before. Our main work is reindeer herding and some days are reserved for reindeer work only and visits for the guests are limited because of that. - Reservations Required
It's privilege for city people to get to know real raindeer farmers and ther way of life. Petri is amazing man following his forefathers tradition of farming in the harsh conditions of Lappland. I enjoyed every minute of the tour so inspiring and truly something very unique and special. Everything done with true passion and kindness this is something not to be missed if you are in the area

Set in the heart of Sápmi in a unique natural landscape on the shore of Lake Inari, the Sámi Cultural Centre Sajos is the largest conference and events venue in northern Lapland and serves as a centre for Sámi self-governance, culture, education and know-how. Modern conference premises, facilities and technology go hand in hand with genuine, living Sámi culture.
We visited during our trip to Lapland and passed a pleasant few hours going around the centre. There were a few displays, including some nice artwork and a large permanent exhibition about local nature and how it adapts to the extreme weather conditions. The adjacent outdoor village was closed for the season so we couldn't explore that. There was a good cafe that was well stocked and reasonably priced. The local town also offers some nice walks and views, and was worth spending some time in. I'd recommend stopping here if you are passing and have some time to spare.

When this Lake is frozen in winter and early spring, it provides access to numerous excursions by sled and snowmobile.
One of them is the island sacred to the Sami people, Ukonsaari Island. It's hulk is impressive even from shore. There is a wooden stairway to the observation platform at the summit, where the view is magnificent, and Russia looms on the horizon.

We could feed the reindeers, experience some related experiences and go for a sledge ride. Then we went to a small traditional and cosy building drink some tee or coffee and they present us lots of information about Sami culture in different aspects and we could listen some traditional songs live! Best homemade souvenir shop and amazing student discount!!!

Having experienced dog sledding in other places we rate this to be the best. Juhana the owner has 40 happy dogs. Each dog responds to own name. We elected not to drive ourselves, Juhana has a long sled accommodating 3 passengers, we sat on cosy reindeer skins in the sled and Juhana stood behind and gave voice commands to the 12 dogs pulling our sled at a fast exciting pace through beautiful scenery.

A rather pretty wooden church built in the Wilderness in 1987. We passed by this church during our hiking tour organized by our local guide. It belongs to the Orthodox Parish of Lapland. Since it is situated in a rather isolated area, I believe tourists would probably best be escorted or you would not be enticed to make a special visit on your own since there is not a lot of historical significance to it. Note that there is a small cemetery next to the church as well.

Tuula's farm is well worth a visit - where she will show you around her grounds and allow you to feed her reindeer...
the whole experience of visiting the farm and seeing the beautiful countryside is worthwhile, and learning a little about Sami culture, and in addition the chance to get up close with the reindeer.
Well recommended!
