Mt. Kiro Observatory Park

One would need a set of wheels to get here. An easy drive just off the highway and it well worth the while. Majestic views of the Bridges and looking back at Imabari, Shikoku.
We have seen the views at Mt Inasa in Nagasaki, Mt Moiwa in Sapporo and this view at Mt Kirosan is no less enjoyable. We were here in the day and couple of local tourist buses make their way here to.
Simply memorable

Driving across was a pretty cool experience, the bridge was not only spectacular but was so easy to drive across, take care though I did see an unmarked police car pull someone over, plenty of photos and videos can be taken by passengers whilst driving over this marvellous structure.

Oyamazumi Shrine

Reviewed By n2history - St. Louis, MO

I stopped at the Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima Island while biking the Shimanami route from Onomichi to Imabari. Someone at the Onomichi U2 told me that this shrine is very important and was a place I must visit. She said that before the new highway, it was not so easy to reach. Stopping here means does mean a 12 km detour (following the "Island Explorer" road markers) from the Shimanami route.
The grounds here are peaceful and provide a relaxing space. A very large tree occupies the grounds in front of the shrine. Fortunately, trinket sales are carried out in the tourist rest center beyond the shrine.

Imabari Castle

Reviewed By mat_mak - Tokyo Prefecture, Japan

This castle main building was closed for a holiday when I visited there in year-end season. I accessed into walled courtyard of the castle. I saw appearance of the castle. Then I visited a shrine which was next to the castle, and then I prayed. The castle was built in 1602 by a local lord, but it was rebuilt in 2007 due to a badly-damaged by fire in 1871. Walls were painted with white mortar, and it looked new.

Close to Omishima IC. Find a variety of souvenirs. dry foods and seasonal oranges. You can enjoy a Japanese-style meal of pried seven band groupir with a stunning view of Tatara Bridge.

Unlike the parks on nearby Islands along the Shimanami Kaido, this park seemed to be mostly gift shop, restaurant, and trinket/food stalls. There is a grassy area next to the sea, but few options to sit and enjoy. If you are biking the Shimanami, you can find a Circle K and a few other small markets about 1 km north of this park by following the "Island Explorer" route. There are good sea views but not many services to the south as you continue the bike route.

There is a nice museum but it was not entirely towel-related (the main exhibits were Moomin and hang when we went) which were actually pretty interesting exhibits, just off-topic. Most of the towel-related items were the shops. The museum was also out of the way.

Texport Imabari

Reviewed By jeni_hk - Hong Kong, China

Imabari is famous for its towels. The region where the towels are made has soft water from the Mountains which basically does not contain heavy metals, and this gives Imabari towels the reputation of its high quality.
Texport Imabari was kind of a let-down for us though. Whilst there was a good selection of different styles and sizes of towels, perhaps it was not quite apparent to the naked eye how these towels were of superior quality. Prices were also relatively steep. We did not buy anything, but swung by the big supermarket opposite Texport where we did some serious snack shopping.
