Summer Wine Exhibition

The dramatic beauty of the Pennine moorlands, featuring quaint villages, dry stone walls and beautiful cottages, is an added bonus to the mischievous antics TV viewers have come to expect from the Summer Wine characters. The exhibition incorporates Compo's house, and has original props and photos along with a timeline of the whole series from the very beginning till the end of the show. 295 episodes of everlasting humour. Please check our website for opening times.

This is a small but brilliant exhibition on the classic tv series. You see a recreation of Compo's House and there are props and films of great moments from the programme and interviews with the stars. I had a chuckle thinking of Compo and Nora Batty moments. The shop is well equipped and I bought a Compo Teddy bear, well, I just had to. Look out for Milly the dog running around welcoming the visitors!

Went with friends for lunch. The food was great, but we were sat in a very cold draught. Know they are about to move to another mill, as a lot of the former displays (cars) were no longer there. This was a great disappointment, as we wanted to show our friends the eclectic display that is normally there. Believe it is the local Kirklees Council that is causing a problem regarding the move.

Beaumont Park

Reviewed By RoganJ - Yorkshire

First visit for some years and it's much better for some TLC and restoration. Clean, well maintained and improved by committed volunteers.
Main thing you notice is it's not your average park. Not much grass and flowerbeds. Lots of trees, crags and grottos. And it's a weird shape; very wide and falling steeply down a hillside. That said most the main paths Promenade horizontally along a contour, so you can avoid climbs and steps if you like.
A few pointers:
- 2 small Playgrounds by each other, one for infants with a slide and swings; one with a basket swing and climb frame. Quite small scale
- great views from the top across to Castle Hill
- the main paths are wide and level Tarmac and fine for skateboards, prams, bikes, etc. Lower paths are more bumpy and skiddy
- cafe is run by volunteers and feels like an OAP social club in quite a sweet way. Expect good value (coffee/tea £1, sandwiches £2) not a crafted flat white. Terrace at the back with views
- loos have been closed but there's one in the cafe
- points of interest include bandstand and cascade water feature
- great for dens and hide and seek with kids...but watch where younger ones climb
- easy car parking on street at the top
- there's a Run England 123 course
- not a lot of other things to do (no tennis, golf, sports pitches, etc.)
- interpretation boards and Victorian local history abound

If you like your beers and fancy something a little different this is definitely the one. Hidden just off the A616 this small, upbeat and modern establishment offers a wide range of craft beers brewed on site. The beers range between around 3% to 9% and are excellent if you like experiencing something different. The setting created here is pretty cool and always has a friendly atmosphere, staff and customers alike. If you are staying in the area for example at the campsite and want to try some of the local creations this is most definitely one for the list.

Our utterly amazing magical unforgettable wedding began on Friday 16th June when I was joined at the Coach House by 4 of my friends (3 from the Netherlands) for a twilight sparty full of love and laughter and a relaxing evening with strawberries and prosecco and an overnight stay in the Nook for one of my friends and me. Even then Suzanne and Chris catered for even the minutest of details. The Nook is decorated beautifully and is so romantic; all our needs were catered for. The next morning we had a breakfast hamper (delicious) sat beside the river and the sun shining. The wedding ceremony in the orangery was every dream come true - everything was thought about in the layout of room, the chairs for the guests, the lanterns and the beautiful archway where our wedding took place. My wedding flowers were gorgeous. Lynne (the celebrant) officiated the wedding just the way we wanted. After the ceremony we were greeted by canapes and Proseco by (these were yummy too!) Then it was time for our luxury buffet - every need was catered for; we have never seen such a detailed buffet. Our wedding pork pie was top and decorated with edible flowers. The tables were decorated thoughtfully. Everyone commented on the hard work and professionalism of Chris, Suzanne, their family and friends and the excellent quality of the food. The bar service was excellent :). Then it was dance time! The wedding eve, the wedding day, and our hamper breakfast the day after was way way way beyond our dreams and expectations. It was informal and full of love and laughter and this was commented on by everyone who came from England, Wales and the Netherlands. A huge thank you to all at the Coach House you made our wedding such an utterly amazing magical unforgettable wedding - way way way beyond our expectations and dreams - a day that was unforgettable not only for us but for all our guests.

Very friendly staff. Only negative is the car park was very muddy.

Penistone Paramount Cinema

This little gem of a cinema/live show venue is a jewel in the crown for the small market town of Penistone. There is a free car park - which does get full for popular films/events, although there is free parking in the surrounding streets. The staff are friendly, and the place is spotlessly clean. There is a great variety of live shows, ranging from comedy to ballet, including the local dramatic society's pantomime at Christmas. In the interval, it is good to stretch your legs and sample the delights of the well-stocked bar with drinks ranging from coffee to spirits, and an excellent selection of soft drinks, ice-cream and popcorn from the kiosk. MUCH, MUCH better than the American influenced multiplex cinemas that appear to have overtaken the intimate atmosphere of this lovely little cinema.
