Birdwoods Gallery is a very special place in the heart of Hawke's Bay. Set in the countryside just 3km from Havelock North Village, Birdwoods Gallery and its small companion, the Birdwoods Sweet Shop, are a 'must see' for young and old. Two historic buildings have been relocated to this pretty rural setting and transformed to become a distinctive and enchanting visitor attraction. Enjoy our famous morning or afternoon tea or come for a delicious garden lunch with family or friends. End it off with a delicious real fruit ice-cream from our little Ice Cream Shop.

Was lovely to visit and try the honey, unfortunately we wasnt able to buy any due to the nz restrictions for travellers.
They have little bee hives indoors so you can see the workings.
There are lots of other lovely souveniers to buy and dont forget the ice cream

I can highly recommend this beautiful spot, albeit the rather nippy water. Beautiful waterfall, clear water and good vibes. Make sure that you turn left when you get to the fork in the trail (otherwise you'll be wondering where the falls are!). Highly recommend.

The Origin Earth Cheese Counter showcases all our products under one roof plus we sell a range of goods that complement our milk, cheeses and yoghurt. Origin Earth Cheese Counter and Café offers locals and visitors a true Hawke’s Bay experience. Focusing on local food the Cafe menu reflects Hawke’s Bay’s seasonal bounty while the Origin Earth Cheese Counter gives you the opportunity to try and buy the award-winning Origin Earth products. After tasting the cheeses at the Origin Earth Cheese Counter, order a cheese board, platter or one of the offerings from the Cafe cabinet, add a glass of local wine or beer or a cup of Hawke’s Bay roasted coffee and sit back and relax.
Fantastic place to visit. The cheeses are sensational and the cheese mistress was wonderful. Knowledgeable and entertaining. We bought lots. Good cafe attached too with loads of good things to eat in a lovely setting with outdoor Seating available.

Te Mata's entire focus is fine wine production. There's no restaurant or accommodation here, only a small Cellar Door for tastings. It's open daily over summer, and Wednesday to Saturday in Winter. Coleraine House opposite the winery is on private property and the home of the Buck family - the winery's owners. We do try and leave them in peace and quiet when we can. :) Te Mata is an estate producer - meaning it grows its own fruit on this property, then ferments and bottles that wine onsite. It’s a 'one stop shop' for wine production and export - rather than a food or entertainment venue. Independent, and New Zealand family-owned for over 120 years, the winery and vineyards were the first in New Zealand to be protected under conservation law as a wine-making heritage site - the 'Te Mata Special Character Zone'. Five of Te Mata's Showcase wines are listed as 'Five Star’ and ‘Super Classic' in Michael Cooper's Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wine. The winery has been awarded Robert Parker's highest classification 'Outstanding Producer, Five Stars'. Te Mata Estate wines are available in 45 countries.
Not sure what all the fuss is about this place. We were stung $7.50 for a meagre tasting (probably the most minuscule pours we have ever seen) of some pretty awful, thin, wine with little to no palette. Probably a good thing the pours were so small, as we would have tipped most of it. The girl who served us was nice, but that was the only positive.

Step off a busy main road onto a shady sheltered stream walk. Abundant birdlife and popular off lead dog walking area. Dogs just love the stream. Stream levels vary from empty in summer to full in winter. Has various tracks leading onto streets either side of walkway. An old well from a long closed brick works is up the top of the walkway. Easy walking grade.

I have been there the 6th of january, and I was looking for an accomodation neary. The answer was: I have only something for 200$, and Imlooked a little bit shocked, on what another lady next to the first one said: My rooms are 380$/night and easy to rent, ha, ha ,ha!
That was those answers to my questions. This person should work at such a business, it is very unpleasant and of no help.
Eventually I could get help from a couple of motel-managers who did phone calls and could find a place for at a very nice B+B for 60$, yes it thanks to the help of moels or inn keepers.
But really avoid this I-SITE in Havelocks North, unless they change their employee.

I'm very lucky to live backing on to this reserve. You can enter from Te Mata Rd and walk down to the children's' play area.
Maintained by Hastings District Council many residents have beautified the areas outside their homes with extra planting, trees ,hanging bird feeders, and Seating.
Perfect for walking your dog or taking children to play in the play area.
Lovely Gardens to view as you walk down the Reserve.

This playground features water troughs, and all kinds of learning experiences for children as they direct the water through the system. It is safe, fun and includes regular slides etc, plus table tennis, BMX track and loads of space. I take my grandchildren regularly and it is always busy, even through winter. Children are fascinated with exploring the clever designs to ebb and flow the water - they work together or play individually, and who doesn't like a little paddle even in winter?

We called into the winery just east of Havelock North twice in the space of a few days, taking friends staying over for Christmas. We came back as the wines were very good with excellent bouquets. It was great to sit down face to face with the winemaker himself, who was very interesting man and obviously very knowledgeable on his and all wines generally. On both occasions we bought wine and are already drinking them.
