Very interesting way to spend a couple of hours especially if you are interested in plants and how they can cope with such a hostile enviroment. A circular walk starting from the Port (where there is a small carpark) along the coast then cutting inland to the base of the volcano goes through several quite distinct plant communities with some very unusual species. Alternatively you can walk all along the coastal path and get a bus back to Guimar port.

The Ethnographic Park “Pirámides de Güímar” is a 64.000 m2 site of great cultural value, which comprises six stepped pyramids that have been studied by archaeologists around the world, led by the famous Norwegian anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl. The park includes the Casa Chacona Museum, which shows the results of the investigations carried out in the pyramid complex, its astronomical alignment with the sun during the summer and winter solstices, and one of the largest photographic collections of stepped pyramids in the world. Visitors can also visit the Auditorium, showing a documentary about the pyramids and the research of Dr. Heyerdahl, the Expeditions room, with information and reproductions of the boats used by Heyerdahl in his transoceanic voyages, and a large-scale reproduction of the Ra II; and a leisure area with cafeteria, souvenir shop and playroom. Three outdoor routes can also be discovered along the more than 20.000 m2 of endemic Canarian gardens: the Botanical Route, the Exportation Products Route and the Cultural Route, which offers information on many aspects of culture, history and ethnography of the Canary Islands.Furthermore, two new Exhibitions have been inaugurated recently. On one hand, the Ethnographic Park is housing the exhibition “Rapa Nui. Polynesia: Extreme Survival”, developed by the ‘Mata Ki Te Rangi’ Foundation of Easter Island. The exhibit aims to raise awareness of one of the most extraordinary societies in the world and the achievements of this statue-building Polynesian society. The latest novelty at the Park is the Secret Garden, a 1500 m2 garden specialised on poisonous plants, comprising a selection of over 70 plant species that have toxic or dangerous properties. This ‘live exhibit’, unique in the Canary Islands, reviews the exciting history of poisons, and presents stories of some of the most notorious poisoners and deadly venoms of all times.
I read about the sea voyages undertaken by Heyerdahl and his theories about the pyramids at Guimar so I dragged my wife here under some sufferance. The information about the boats and the associations drawn by Heyerdahl about the pyramids was explained well both on the display panels and via the audio guide and we had a great few hours agreeing then disagreeing with his theories. The replica of Ra II was good though a little hard to see in its display case and the pyramids and Gardens very interesting. You don’t have to agree with all his ideas and in his commentary from archive material he admits many remain unproven. My wife actually found the whole thing a lot less boring than she had expected.

This barranco is prone to be overhung by clouds. This is because it captures the winds at an altitude of 600 m, and the wind has no way to go. You can see this easily from shape of this barranco in Google Earth. Also, you can observe it on live satellite pictures. If there are any clouds at all at the south side of Tenerife, then they are above the Barranco de Badajoz. There are a few fincas here, and the owners grow potatoes and wine. Because it is more cloudy here it is also more green than on both its flanks at the south.

Recently there has been a landslide and the trail is covered in one place with soil which is unstable and the risk of a deadly fall is eminent! DON'T WALK TO THE WINDOWS from the south (from the antennas). It is extremely risky. It's not worth it.

i used them to go to masa trekking, one of the owner is the chauffeur as well. the mini bus was very right on time, the trekking was worth it. the guides speak several languages and interact with people. you can even get trekking shoes, sticks and rucksack for free if you need. the motor boats are safe and comfortable. the staff is friendly and you can spend a great day in masa. the trekking is very easy but a beautiful corner of the valley from the inside. i suggest to improve the quality of the packed lunch: one banana and a Sandwich with one slice of ham and one slice of cheap cheese is a bit poor for the price.
recommend .

Just passing by on TF28 to Guimar and spotted the sign so turned in and found this hidden green and friendly place about to close, greeted by the lovely German family's children who asked me to come back soon to have a look around and enjoy the cafe, which I will be doing with friends very soon, you bet.
