Colour me purple!
Arrived in Grafton this afternoon to a sea of colour - nothing can prepare you for the streets and streets of Jacaranda's in bloom.
There were many international visitors taking photos in streets and within See Park - my travelling companion took hundreds of photos as she walked over three kilometres.
We relaxed in the park watching families picnic and play games...this is a great place.

Built in the late 1800's Christ Church Cathedral is a unique building in a country town of Australia. It is as big and imposing as many of the cathedrals you see in Europe or England. Internally it is very impressive and worth visiting. Seeing the organ pipes is a sight to see. The adjoining old support buildings are also impressive. The op shop run adjoining the Cathedral is a must visit sight. Low prices for quality articles and service by 'angels".

Thde Saraton Theatre is one of Australia's largest and oldest theratres. It is decorated in the Art Deco style popular in the interwar periiod. It has three cinema screens, which is its concession to conemporary economics. Seeing a show at the Saraton is a great way to spend an evening in Grafton.

The Grafton Regional Gallery holds the largest collection of artworks on the North Coast of New South Wales and continues to develop its vibrant collections. The Gallery presents over 40 Exhibitions and 70 programs and events each year. It is an outstanding public gallery reflecting the passion for the visual arts held by the community of the Clarence Valley. House in Historic Prentice House the gallery is a cultural must visit as well as a food lovers' hub with the attached award winning cafe and restaurant.
This lovely home, a Doctor's originally, is beautifully restored as a gallery. Look out for the superb honey-coloured wooden floors, and tasteful interior colours, and the staircase. Exhibitions of local artists (birds) and school students were good. A very moving exhibition "Without Consent" details stories of adoption and old moral standards. Free entry. Allow 30-60 minutes. Cafe on the courtyard.

Popular with the board riders on the weekends, this National Park is nice and quiet during week. Plenty of wildlife: kangaroos, bandicoots, pythons ( we had a three metre one visit our camp), whales, dolphins and many varieties of birds.
Great beach walks but no shells.

Washpool National Park, north-west of Grafton offers Wilderness walks and camping in stunning World Heritage surrounds! It's a vast space and the Washpool Walking Tracks are neverending - we spent an entire day getting lost in Gondwana Rainforest - so incredibly ancient! We had a dinner then in Coachwood Picning Area - it has all necessary amenities that you'd expect! Awesome place.

On the recommendation of locals,we decided to eat here! The eatery was rocking for a Thursday evening, with several large groups dining.Service was still prompt, even allowing for the fact that meals are cooked fresh.Heaps of menu choice plus daily specials.Hubby chose lamb shanks in red wine, whilst I had a pumpkin parcel with spinach, fetta, moroccan spices and pine nuts. Both meals were generous serves and reasonably priced.Would eat here again.

My travelling companion was keen to visit this museum to see some local Aussie history. There is a minimal $2 entrance fee per person.
Strangely enough the home & layout reminded me of my Grandmothers home in the 1950's....I enjoyed chatting to the volunteers...brought back many memories.
There so much history of Grafton and surrounds that is worth an hour or so...ask as many questions as you like.
