Fourth time here and not one disappointment. The food is great, another level in comparison to any other restaurant in Melbourne. The service fantastic and professional with some of the best Italians in Australia. The owner is a careful and caring person, always there, for anything you need. If I could I would come back tomorrow

Step back in time as you enjoy your meal in a friendly relaxed family run business.
Just arrived in Melbourne and went to trendy Carlton, not sure what to expect from this Italian restaurant. It didn't start off well, There was only a half portion of Cannelloni left for me, my partner had the last full portion. I has happy to have only the half portion with a salad. Lori the owner was distraught that there was not enough for a full portion for me.So she offered me any alternative I wanted, didn't"charge for the salad, offered us both a sweet and a liquor. I then asked if she could order a taxi for us, she went outside to get a taxi, because were difficult to obtain she even offerd the taxi driver a coffee to take us back to our hotel. Talk about going the extra mile. By the way the Cannelloni was great.

Housed in an elegant triple-fronted Victorian Terrace, past the bohemian enclave of Melbourne’s famous ‘Brunswick Street’offering seasonal contemporary Australian cuisine and professional hospitality since 1994.Awarded a minimum of 1 hat in the coveted “Age Good Food Guide” every year since 1996.
For our wedding reception in October 2017 we chose Matteo's - we've always loved our experiences there, and measure all our culiinary experiences by this establishment. With only 30 of us, we booked the Venetian room, and as it was lunch on Saturday, they opened just for us and we had the place to ourselves, so our best man could serenade us with his acoustic guitar.
We had asked for our guests to be greeted with a glass of bubbly, a beer or soft drink on arrival, and we were pleased to find that they had opened the back room for guests to mingle before being seated - we hadn't expected this!
The Venetian room itself was laid out beautifully, and one of our guests reported "this is the best food I've ever had at a wedding!" Service was attentive but not intrusive; the courses came out at perfect intervals; it had been no problem at all to modify the menu to remove all nuts (to cater to our guest with a nut allergy); instead of either the drinks package or open wine list, it was no problem for us to give a short list of 5 wines for our guests to choose from; in short, nothing was too big an ask.
We have already returned with a smaller group of 6 on Christmas Eve, and we will continue returning to Matteo's to celebrate our special occasions. We could not recommend this place more. If you haven't been, you must go soon!

I had visited this the Vegi bar many years ago and had enjoyed my experience much so decided to take some friends there to enjoy the atmosphere and the interesting dishes that they had on the menu.
This cafe now restaurant had changed significantly since my last visit and I left 2 hours later feeling a little deflated and disappointed.
There was a very long wait to be seated even though I had called through earlier to make a booking.
Once seated it at least 20 minutes before our orders were taken.
The meals finally arrived and were incorrect so two plates had to be recorded and represented which took another 30 minutes to arrive.
Had to remind the rushed waitress that our drinks had been forgotten also.
The fare was ok but nothing special.
Our table was then ready for another booking so we were hurried along.
So decided to order coffee after we had been asked to leave our table.
Take away was the only option so we ordered 3 coffees which prolonged my agony still waiting and waiting-Coffee order was incorrect!!! Sugar in 2 of the 3 that was not requested and at nearly $5 each this left a “sour taste in my mouth”
This used to be a incredible alternative cafe/restaurant with friendly staff and quality well priced food.
I really believe the reason behind all these issues and negative reviews from from many other contributors is because the Vegi Bar has enjoyed so much success over time it has become too busy for its own good.
The place is packed and no tables are available and even if you prebook you still have to wait.
Waitresses/Waiters/barstaff are so overwhelmed they cannot keep up and mistakes are made.
Customers are ushered in and out on a timed bases to accomodate more customers.
This cafe/restaurant must enjoy an excellent income generated by the turnover of customers and the price of the fare however the enjoyable dining experience is diminished due to its own success.
Very loud and buzzing atmosphere but friendliness and timing of service has a lot to be desired.
Won’t be back here in hurry as there are many much better establishments within a five minute Stroll of Brunswick Street.

Welcome to Longrain, Melbourne. Our menu brings together South East Asian influences with the best Victorian produce. Inspired by the communal eating philosophy of the Asian table, our menu is made up of dishes created for sharing. Large servings and communal tables encourage the spirit of eating together, so you can try each dish as part of a full tasting experience, just as it was intended. The wine and cocktail list is created to work in harmony with the menu's intense and aromatic flavours.
We visited Longrain on a Friday evening around 7.30. We were able to get a seat at the bar which was fine. The bar staff were very attentive taking drinks and food order. They helped us know how much food to order. We had the...MoreThank you for your fantastic review. It is wonderful to read of your Longrain Experience and we hope to welcome you again soon.

This intimate restaurant and bar offers authentic northern Italian cuisine in a typically Italian bistro setting, complete with charming, opinionated and helpful waiters. Food preparation and presentation were excellent and not fussy. Cheesecake dessert divine.

I've previously enjoyed breakfast at the Fitz.
I went for lunch and decided to have three share plates between the two of us.
We ordered corn fritters, veg spring rolls, and Peking duck.
I estimate that the plates on which the food arrived measured 6cm across. Piled high with lettuce.
The corn fritters were two little balls, and the only share plate approaching value for money thanks to the salmon on top and the filling nature of the fritters.
The veg spring rolls was actually one spring roll cut into three Beatles among lettuce.
The Peking duck share plate had four morsels of duck meat about the size of my thumbnail - they were merely a garnish on top of a pile of lettuce and coriander.
The serving sizes of the food were so small I can't see how anyone in their right mind can call these share plates.
Disappointed.

Haven't been for a while and unfortunately the food was hit and miss. We shared a few tapas and some fresh barramundi. The fish was excellent, juicy, salty with a crispy skin. The artichoke was bland and needed a lift, maybe citrus. The scallops were tasty but tiny lost under the breadcrumbs. Standout was the manchego and spinach croquet. Just ok for a late night feed.

The environment is attractive and comfortable, and the tasting menu was excellent, as were the accompanying wines. Service was, for the most part, excellent, except towards the end when we were moved from the dining room to the bar to finish our meal. At that point we seemed to have become lesser people, and the wait for our cheese course was irritating.
It is understandable that a popular restaurant like this should want to maximise their throughput, but if a tasting menu with accompanying flight of wines is on offer, the reservation system should allow enough time for this to be enjoyed. Perhaps the accountants are taking control!

A fantastic bar with outstanding views. We arrived at about 6pm for post work drinks with my cousin whilst we were in town. We were lucky enough to secure a fabulous table with outstanding views of the city.
Great beer selection and friendly staff. The decor is really cool and great outside space. Would definitely visit again.
