We went twice and sat outside (wonderfully wasting an hour) looking at the vines while we enjoyed a bottle of rose and superb cheese platter. They're only open Thursday, Fridays & Saturdays, so plan your visit. The owners were really nice, happy to answer all of our questions (as it wasn't suitable to do their tour as we have a 2 year old and 4 year old), and gave us a taste of their wines that led to us buying a few bottles as they are excellent. Don't miss it!

Exmouth & Orcombe Point Walk

This moderate 5.4 mile circular walk goes from Exmouth Station out to Littleham Cross, then through countryside out to the South West Coast Path. Passing Orcombe Point and the Geoneedle the walk leads back along the cliff top and past historic buildings in The Beacon.

We love this clifftop walk from Exmouth to Orcombe Point and high on the cliff tops you get the most stunning veiws of the sea and surrounding coastline. One of my best walks.

Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve

Very disappointed unfortunately. Saw no wildlife or birdlife to speak of and could merely class as a pleasant dish walk. Beach very busy with holidaymakers and the car park entrance area very busy with typical beach shops and cafe. Plenty of parking but not much else there for us as a nature reserve.

Exmouth to Lympstone Walk

An easy, gentle 2.3 mile stroll from Exmouth along the eastern bank of the Exe Estuary, whose mudflats, sandbanks and marshes are of international importance for their wildlife, especially the tens of thousands of resident and migratory waterbirds. Look out for avocets, curlews and lapwings, even seals and otters, and buzzards wheeling overhead. Take time to explore Lympstone before catching the train back to Exmouth.

Reviewed By zooma49 - Rossendale

This very pleasant short walk between Exmouth and Lympstone that runs alongside the railway line and on a nice day it is well worth the time.
On reaching Lympstone there are a few places to eat and drink and if the weather changes or the walk back is too much then the railway has a small station (more of a "halt" platform really) where you can get the train back to Exmouth or go in the other direction to Exeter and beyond!
The only problem experienced on this walk is the "mad keen" cyclists that you may encounter - usually identifiable by the drop handlebars, lycra, no bell, and the high speed as they seem to think that they own the walk and that it has been provided purely for them to set and improve their personal best (PB) time and anyone that may interfere with this competitive event ( such as a walker or a casual cyclist) is made to feel very unwelcome!
If this activity could be surpressed a little without spoiling it for the majority who enjoy the walk or the cycle ride then it would be even better - and a lot safer!

Powderham Castle

Powderham Castle is the family home of the 18th Earl & Countess of Devon. It was originally built by Sir Philip Courtenay in 1391 and despite undergoing many transformations since surviving the ravages of the civil war in the 17th century, it has remained in the same family. Entertaining guided tours bring the fascinating history to life, you will find them engaging whatever your age. Discover secret doors, stunning architecture and even a haunted landing. We would advise you to allow at least 3 hours for your visit so you can take time to explore the many acres of Gardens and grounds. The Walled Garden is home to our friendly Powderham pets, including Tessa the tortoise and Harry the donkey, and is a safe haven for our little visitors. Relax in the peaceful surroundings, from the beautiful Rose Garden, overlooking the deer park and Exe estuary to the Woodland Garden, with its stunning collection of trees. For the keener walker the breathtaking views from the foot of the Belvedere tower are very rewarding - you can see for miles and feel on top of the world! Before you leave visit the Powderham Country Store. Here you will find Toby Buckland's wonderful plant shop, the Powderham General Trading Co with its range of gifts, clothes and home furnishings and a fantastic food hall, bakery and butcher.

Visited Powderham en route back home after a walking holiday with my dog. I was amazed that she was allowed in the grounds AND in the house. You are given a tour of the house by a very well informed room guide which was fascinating. Tasty food also served in the cafe. Excellent value for your entry ticket. National Trust members get a discount.

This is a fascinating place to walk along the coast as there is a clearly marked path alongside the railway line. The rock formations and history of the line are fascinating if you are into geology/geography and like a cliff-side walk. It is also appealing if you like watching trains go by. Dawlish town is friendly with plenty of ice-cream and cream tea spots.

Really appreciate this highly accessible beach- with as well as the sand, and the sea, has excellent views to the west looking down the Devon coast.
Framed by a wide Promenade with very attractive buildings- spacious and open atmosphere. This is an excellent facility.
Regret that dogs are allowed on the beach all year round. This is not family friendly and lets down what would otherwise be an excellent area.

Great setting, very well organised shop, cafe and toilets. Easy car parking. We felt privileged to visit.
House is stunning!
Toilets immaculately clean- and lovely Gardens.
Nearly all the staff were superb- cafe, shop and ticket office all helpful and welcoming.
Our only adverse comment is that we were disappointed the guide did not appear to know about or be really interested in the associated Point in View chapel, and she had views different from that on the information board. Otherwise would give five stars.
