The Elblag - Ostroda Canal does not use locks to raise and lower ships from one level of the canal to another. Rather, ships are dragged overland by hydraulically powered cable cars between sections of the canal. Built in the 1850's, the canal is still in use and its technology is reportedly unique in the world. You can take boat tours of the canal from Elblag, which we did not do. Instead, we observed the overland passage of boats at Buczyniec, where there is also a good museum which explains the building of the canal and its technology. To reach this site, take the Morzewo exit from the E77 running between Gdansk and Warsaw, and proceed west in the direction of Lepno. Just before you cross the canal turn right and then left again. You will see small brown
signs for "Pochylnia Buczyniec." Follow them. Apparently 12 noon is a good time to see ships carted overland.

The Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Elbląg is one of the oldest temples in the city and from 25 March 1992 is the Cathedral of Elblag diocese. It is located near the Old Town Hall, on the left bank of the river Elbląg. This is one of the highest temples in Poland with the height of 97 meters.
It was built in the Gothic style in the first half of the XIII century. It has been damaged severely in fire caused by a struck of thunder in 1777 and rebuilt shortly after. In 1907 a brick tower in Renaissance Style has been added which has been opened to the public in 2015 with an observation Terrace on the 68 meters height.
The Cathedral itself has been severely damaged again [altogether with almost all old town] by Russian Army entering Elblag in February 1945 after capitulation of Germans.
Present shape of the Cathedral has been established after reconstruction works during years 1948-65.
The observation Terrace can be reached by climbing 366 steps which takes roughly 15 minutes [depending on your shape of course]. It’s opened 6 days a week from Tuesday to Sunday from 15 of April until 15 of October. Entrance is free. Due to security reasons there only can be 10 people on the observation Terrace at the same time. Opening hours are as follows:
Tue – Fri: 10am – 5pm
Sat: 10am – 2pm
Sunday: 2pm – 5pm
In a good weather conditions you can see not only Panorama of the Elblag city, Bazantarnia Park and Zulawy District with close by Druzno Lake but also outlines of located 30 km away Malbork city.
The interior of the Cathedral was built in Gothic style, and is not inferior in richness of its appearance. Special attention deserves the bronze baptismal font dating from the year of 1387, wooden statues of the Apostles and the patron Saint of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas.
As a born citizen of Elblag I can surely say that both interior of the Cathedral and the observation Terrace are definitely worth a visit.

Museum in Elblag is one of the oldest museums in Poland. Collected for many years the exhibits can be seen in two historic buildings, which are part of the Teutonic castle grounds, in the past. In addition to modern exhibition museum invites you to watch the holographic movie which presents two thousand years history of the south-eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. Because of extensive renovation works in Gymnasium building it will be closed for visitors until the end of year 2018. Please visit to our website for details.
The museum is very interesting, spent a couple of hours in there learning about all the interesting facts of the history of Elblag.

This is a perfect place for running / jogging. Yes, you can also take your (mountain-type) bike and have fun there as well! Terrain is mixed, with uphill and downhill parts of pathways. It is also safe as a lot of people are there.

Art Centre Gallery EL, located in old dominican church from XIII century presenting contemporary art in all it's different shapes and techniques. The gallery promotes Polish and international artists by organising a few dozen solo- and group Exhibitions each year. The gallery also organises many rock- and jazz Concerts.
Although the building is interesting and it was adapted from a Protestant Church into an art gallery, I was really dissapointed. I believe that it could be better managed. The temporary Exhibitions are nothing exceptional. The place is wonderful and has a lot of potential, but unfortunately is not well developed into an art gallery.

Очень небольшой монумент понтифику с задней стороны собора. Кажется, этих памятников в Польше уже больше, чем лениных в социалистические времена. Но этот хорош. На нем Иоанн Павел какой-то добрый, с мягким прищуром.
