Stunning location, vastly improved layout in the magnificent dunes (we lasted visited in 2014). The first hole must be one of the best starting holes in Ireland with the huge semi-circular dune surrounding the so-called green.
The staff were excellent, the club house facilities and the hotel were top draw but I would avoid returning until assurances could be given that the greens were up to 5* standard.

Well worth a visit. Short boat trip from Kilrush Marina with a very friendly Ferry company staff. When you reach the island after a 5 Minute boat trip you have an excellent Guide to tell you about the Islands history which is 1000 years.

Dolphinwatch

Dolphin Watching & Wildlife Eco-Adventure Watch and learn about Ireland’s resident group of bottlenose dolphins on this guided boat trip into the Mouth of the Shannon. With approximately 200 individuals in this group, the dolphin encounter rate with Dolphinwatch is one of the best in the world. Every trip is different in this dynamic environment! You might meet a grey seal emerging from a cave, spot a herd of wild goats on a hillside, learn about the many species of nesting seabirds, and delight in the stunning cliffs and caves of the Loop Head Peninsula and the coast of North Kerry.

This was an amazing experience.
The whole trip is designed to be as eco and dolphin friendly as possible.
Of course there is no guarantee, but the team used their knowledge to locate the first dolphin within 10 minutes of leaving port. They were riding the bow waves of a departing tanker.
We then managed to track a group for 20 - 30 minutes. These individuals showed no sign of distress, but I was mightily impressed when the captain announced we would be leaving them to their business and that we would try and locate another pod. Exactly the right balance between human and dolphin interaction.
We did manage to locate some more dolphins and again tracked these.
The whole trip lasted just over 2 hours and it was brilliant. There was plenty of information provided by the team, especially during the "quiet" times where no dolphins were around. They were very happy to answer any questions about the dolphins and also provided information about local seabirds and the rock formations.
There was the opportunity to purchase some drinks on board, these were all "eco friendly" options.
The team ensured that everyone rotated positions at the front of the boat, so we could all get good looks at the dolphins out front. As this was done in the right way and dolphins were also off the side of the boat, it wasn't a problem.
An amazing experience and I wouldn't hesitate to do again if I was in the area.

Doughmore Bay

There is a carpark below the Trump Doonbeg Hotel that affords easy access to the beach at Doughmore Bay. This a great site for a fresh air walk. The first week or so in December has been remarkably mild and walkers are taking advantage of it. The waves in the bay break before earthing the shore. There were intrepid surfers trying to make the most of the high waves today. At the waters edge tiny birds chase back and forth before the frothy ripples to the tide. Out to sea Mutton Island and, somewhat less distinct, the cliffs of Mohar are visible. A great place for an afternoon walk

Had a great time stand-up paddle boarding in Kilkee with my teenage son. We rented all the equipment needed and were given a full run through on how to use and enjoy it.
Prices were very cheap and I would recommend the company to anyone considering attempting any of the facilities they have to offer.

We started going to this site some years ago, when there were three Bridges. Unfortunately a fierce Atlantic storm wiped out one bridge, but the area is still magnificent. If you want spectacular scenery and the humbling experience of meeting nature as a powerful force, be sure to go here. It is close to the light house, so combining the two visits makes sense.
