We drove up to the Chapelle, there are plenty of parking spaces up there.
The views are wonderful, there are benches to sit upon outside and the surrounding area is well kept.
Inside there are so many interesting stories on the plaques that line the walls; there are model boats and some really attractive stained glass windows.
It is well worth a visit while you are in Dieppe.

We travelled here to start tour of France. My father was gravely injured in the raid of 19th August 1942. We wanted primarily to visit the museum commemorating this event.
It transpired that we were totally impressed with the whole town. The area around the big church is transformed on Saturdays by a very impressive street market. We thought the whole place to be a delight. Restaurants are plentiful and we learned to use The fork to get discounts. Will have many happy memories.

A 600-year old gothic masterpiece, complete with scowling gargoyles and intricate stained glass windows.
It's quite sad to see such a venerable and historic church in such disrepair. There is some evidence of minor restoration work-but it appears to be moving at a snail's pace. It would take very substantial funds and considerable expertise to restore the church to its former glory. While that may not happen in our lifetimes, it is still worth visiting this very early edifice of Christian piety.

You will discover the maritime activity of the fishing ports on this side of the Channel through :- the evolution of shipbuilding and embarked technology- the fishing techniques aboard doris or trawlers, and the story of a fish from the ocean to the fishmonger- the originality of the geological identity of our cliffs- our Aquariums in which you will at leisure admire the different species living in the Channel.
Small museum showing evolution of the city , the harbour, the ships, the coast...A lot of items used before for the fishing, a lot of models.

Sadly, far too few Canadians are aware of the 1942 Dieppe Raid and the significant toll it took on the Canadian Army. More than 5,000 Canadians took part in what was supposed to be a relatively straightforward raid of the Dieppe area to destroy key military installations and acquire intelligence information. Instead, the troops landed at what turned out to be heavily fortified Beaches resulting in only 2,200 men getting back to England after six hours of hostilities. A total of 916 Canadian soldiers were killed the most in one day at any time before or after during WWII. More than 1,500 were captured and served in German prison camps. The memorial, which is located at Canada Square, is a tribute to these men. Each year on August 19th a memorial service takes place in their honour. Be sure to walk down the boardwalk to visit the various regimental memorials and other information boards.

Surprisingly absent from the list of attractions in Dieppe, the Saturday market is absolutely fantastic. It stretches throughout the central part of Dieppe and contains a wide range of stalls. From clothes and food to haberdashery and things for the home - you can always pick up a bargain. I recommend the stalls with Herbes de Provence, the cheeses, handmade soaps and the linens on the home-style stalls. I also once found some beautiful antique Art Deco buttons There are always a few quirky stalls and it changes every time we visit. A bit of bartering always goes down well, and for those of you not so confident with your French, the stallholders often have a little knowledge of English. I would consider this the No. 1 reason to visit Dieppe. Add in a cup of something hot (or alcholic!) and some lunch and you can make a long morning of it and shop French-style! I'm going back for Easter so will update with hopefully a few pictures...

The Dieppe museum has been housed in the castle since 1923. The castle was first constructed in the 14th century. The museum offers a pluridisciplinary collection of 2 300 objects exhibited throughout 15 rooms. The collection is an extensive illustration of the wealth created from the town’s maritime history and its port. Discover a unique collection of ivories, impressionist paintings, prints by Georges Braque and souvenirs of Camille Saint-Saens. Free booklet in english available at the front desk!
Just back from a fabulous day in Dieppe. This has most frequently been, for me, just a town where I caught the ferry. How wrong I was. This town, although suffering incredible damage in WW2, has been rebuilt. Much remains of its historical past, the city walls are spectacular in places and the Vauban fortifications are breathtaking. The churches are beautiful and the Museum of ivory speaks eloquently of an artistic past.
