My wife and I rented bikes and spent a fabulous late fall excursion in the beautiful forest of de Compiegne. The forest has an interesting historical past as almost all French kings have been hunting in this large forest. It's also the place for important events during the first and second world war. We enjoyed our approximately 25 km bicycle tour immensely. The leaves on the trees where red, orange and yellow, and the bicycle path was paved, almost flat and nicely laid out through the forest. We started outside the village of Compiegne and biked to Pierrefonds and back another route via Vieux-Moulin. Absolutely beautiful! We rented bikes (20 Euro for a full day) at the roundabout Compiegne. Don't forget to ask for a map (Les pistes cyclabes de l'ARC).

It is difficult to know how many stars to give this because it is a functioning Town Hall and not a tourist attraction in the truest sense of the word but is magnificent to look at, a beautiful ornate, imposing structure.
The square in front is gorgeous with beautiful flowers and quaint shops. A lovely place to sit and relax and gaze at the Town Hall.
Get there on the hour to see the figurines on the bell tower move!

This clearing marks the site of the drawing up of the armistice agreement with the defeated Germans in 1918.
This was my fourth visit to the site of the Armistice. Each time, it never fails to impress, or move me. The museum alongside the train carriage is excellent, especially the 3D photo machines. Horrific images brought to life. Overall a very moving place.

At €7.50 for adults and under 26s free a visit to this palace was very good value for money. You get a free audio guide with you paid adult ticket. There are several rooms to see and there's plenty of opulence and decorative wonder on display. We found it not at all busy so took our time to wander through.
Having to walk back through the same route to exit was a little odd.
The Gardens were extensive with some beautiful flowers.

Passed this place many times in the past but didn't know what we were missing. This place is amazing. Young or old this is well worth a visit. The diaramas and models within them are excellent. A depiction of the battle of Waterloo in particular is fantastic. A place to take the children, or, if you are pensioners like us, I guarantee you will be fascinated by the place.

Small local museum on the site of the former detention camp where inmates spent time before deportation to Auschwitz, Dachau, Mauthausen and Ravensbruck. Note exhibits not labelled in English although many of the video clips from survivors are in English or subtitled.

Absolutely beautiful Cathedral right in the heart of town. Huge, imposing gothic facade and beautiful ornate decorations on the outside. Inside is magnificent too, so peaceful and serene while at the same time dripping with history. There is a really good self guide sheet at the door (a blue page) which is free and tells you so much about the Cathedral history and artwork.

I happened to be passing through this gorgeous small city for one day and picked up tickets to an orchestral concert. The hall is beautiful, old, majestic. The acoustics, superb. It was an altogether memorable experience. Even the walk through the city to get to the hall, lovely.
