KoupalistE Frydlant nad Ostravici

Wow what a climb. Absolutely what I'd expect to see in a fortress. It was no surprise that at not time in its history has it been successfully stormed!! The castle is still in remarkable condition considering its age and chequered history. Wear comfortable footwear for the climb.

Technicke Muzeum Tatra

We visited your museum today with my husband , sister and kids and we left with mix feelings and disappointment . This place is absolutely beautifully organised, not expensive and very clean. We took our kids to your museum as they were super exited as they were waited for this visit for a long time as living abroad. This is a Must especially for young boys!
One thing which began to be obtrusive was the fact, that one of your member of staff followed us because we had kids , and kept telling us don't touch this, don't do this etc... This is the children attraction and I do understand that you have certain rules but this was over the top! Children would probably damage the vehicle , what a joke! My husband made a comment, about this lady, and obviously she heard him, so she left. This woman made me very nerves and I was just concentrating on my 2,5 years old son ,just to make sure he won't touch a rope because this lady was constantly behind our backs . We won't be coming in near future, as we didn't feel welcome. Maybe your notice board should be saying ,,kids under 5 years old are not welcome!!!

Free day? Nice weather? Ready for a walk? Go for it! There are two ways how to get to the "truba" from the main square - facing it, go left for a quick stair walk or go right, and I recommend it, and stroll in the stone paved streets and admire the local houses. Right under the tower, you can find a pub where they serve tasty sausages ;) Once you feel strong again, climb the hundred something stairs and enjoy the awesome view! As you get down to the square again, buy the famous local "stramberske usi" as a praize for your performance :D

No matter the season, no matter the weather, you can always visit Olesna :) There is an outdoor swimming pool with slides and attractions for families and couples as well. You can also grab there a bite. Inside, you will find a nice big pool and a wellness world. Very small children are welcome, too, they even organize swimming lessons there for them :) And once you are tired of lying by the pool, take a bike or roller skates and enjoy the 4 km long path around the Olesna dam with fantastic views of the Beskydy Mountains around and several spots with refreshing beer and tasty local meals.

Lysa Hora

Reviewed By Ingomagnus - Aberdeen, United Kingdom

Visited Lysa Hora July 2014 with my wife. This is one of those places that is little known about by tourists as the nearest city is Ostrava which doesn't attract a large number of tourists from western Europe. Lysa Hora is essentially a large mountain located in the area of Ostravice, a town which is easily enough accessed by train from Ostrava although you will need to change trains for the last 10 mins of the journey.
The mountain itself is incredible on a sunny day, the smell of the surrounding forest and the clean air is refreshing. The ascent to the top isn't too taxing on the body, having said that you would need a reasonable degree of fitness as there are steeper parts and if I remember correctly it took us nearly 3.5 hours to ascend walking at a moderate pace.
The walk varies between Roads (at the base), dirt paths and rocky paths, so a comfortable pair of tough shoes would be preferable. Ensure to take water with you as you will get thirsty, there's a supermarket in Ostravice where you can purchase all your needs and there is also fresh water Springs at the base where you can refresh yourself.
At the top there is actually a weather station and a little pub where you can purchase traditional czech meals (soups and such) and also different beers if you're feeling brave about the descent. It was amazing to sit at the peak eating my soup, sipping on my cold kofola and enjoying the vast views over Czech Republic and Slovakia.
We visited in July on quite a warm day but you definitely notice the temperature drop (5 degrees maybe) as you get higher up the mountain, but it wasn't a problem as the walking kept our blood pumping. In the other seasons I would dare say you would need proper walking gear and jackets.
If you ever get a chance to visit this place I highly recommend you do it!
