The Carcavelos Surf School came in 2001, with the first school of surf on the beach in Carcavelos. Teachers are experienced and accredited by the Portuguese Surfing Federation. The school has facilities that are appropriate to students' needs (clothing, hygiene) and a wide range of boards and suits of neoprene. The classes are for students of all ages and different levels.

It rained, heavily, during my first day so bars/cafes were closed. But two days later, on a Sun, the weather was brilliant and the beach and cafes were transformed and were full of people. Activities included netball, yoga, picnicking, sunbathing, Surfing, walking and running. It was wonderful to be part of this out of season experience in November.

Portugal surf rentals is a personalized service where travelers surfers, can rent a surfboard and wetsuits with a help of ex Nacional surf champion Marcos Anastacio, whith 30years of experience ,and simply enjoy the freedom of Surfing Portugal waves
Marcos is a great person to hire a board from. He is reliable and able to communicate where to meet and also offers a great price and a good selection of performance boards. Most of all though he surfs and will give you some tips on where to visit and he is a good bloke with plenty of advice and experience. Highly recommend Marcos and his company!

Clean, neat and safe. The area is located within fences, and is permanently guarded. The lake is very clean (no bathing), no mosquitoes (at least when I was there). Pidgeons enjoy the area, and cats enjoy the pigeons: good opportunity for teaching children about food chain...

It was our first time in Portogual and we decided to book a 5-day Surfing course with LX Surf Camp.
Since we wanted to enjoy the combination of Surfing classes and accommodation in a surf house, we thought to book accomodation with the school. The best option seemed a shared room in one of their lodging in Lisbon, as the Surfing classes were held 20/30 minutes away from the city, and the school also provides transfer from the lodging to the spot (for 10 Euros per person).
Once arrived in Lisbon, however, we found out that the accomodation was actually a hostel; our room was a 6-bed room with bunk beds. The beds were incredibly squeaky, there was no locker available to keep our valuables, Wi-Fi was not working at all. The location of the hostel was right above a very loud bar in Barrio Alto, which played music until late night. This is quite an unfortunate location for people who surf and are supposed to wake up in the morning to attend a 2-hour class. But the worst is that the hostel is obviously not managed by the Surfing school! There must be some collaboration between the hostel and the Surfing school, as Pedro books in there people who want to surf and stay in Lisbon. As a result, we ended up paying 30 Euros per person per night, while the same shared room would cost around 15 Euros per person per night, if booked directly in the hostel website. We felt really frustrated and cheated, because the information provided by Pedro in the website and via email were obviously misleading - and how can someone possibly charge double the price of a shared hostel room?!
The only positive things were Lisbon, a lovely sunny city (we were very lucky with the weather), and the people at the Surfing school (we took classes with Felipe, he is very funny and enthusiastic about his job)!

This is not open to the public (I think it's used by the Ministry of Justice) but provides a great base from which to photograph beach scenes and sunsets. Fishermen also cast from the surrounding rocks.
The surrounding area is an important graveyard for shipwrecks. It's believed the ‘Nosso Senhora dos Mártires’, a pepper ship returning from Kochi, India, was wrecked nearby on Sept 15th 1606. The ship was located between 1996-67. Artefacts linked to it were recovered from the site and are on display in the (recommended) Maritime Museum, Belem.

Teachers are not good, unpassionate and rude (only want money)
It is an underground school, dark, cold and terrible smell.
There is not changing room just a changing area were females are not separate from men.
High cost for surf lessons that dont teach you well, were teachers only want it to be over so they can get their money.
