Whitby is a seaside town, port and civil parish in the Borough of Scarborough and English county of North Yorkshire. It is located within the historic boundaries of the North Riding of Yorkshire. Situated on the east coast of Yorkshire at the mouth of the River Esk, Whitby has an established maritime, mineral and tourist heritage. Its East Cliff is home to the ruins of Whitby Abbey, where Cædmon, the earliest recognised English poet, lived. The fishing port developed during the Middle Ages, supporting important herring and whaling fleets, and was (along with the nearby fishing village of Staithes) where Captain Cook learned seamanship.

We have visited this restaurant a number of times, usually for celebrations as it it expensive but it serves consistently lovely food. Great care is taken in sourcing and preparing the ingredients. The seafood is excellent my wife had lobster and I had halibut and both were perfect. For dessert lovers there are some great options - the creme brûlée is excellent. The service is friendly and efficient in a cosy cottage atmosphere.

Booked a meal here on all of the recommendations of Trip Advisor, Ditto didn't disappoint. Love the simple menu, three dishes to choose from for all courses, no messing about. The food was very good, the service was friendly and professional. Really couldn't fault anything. Worthy of it's place so high up the Trip Advisor rankings.

Staying in Whitby for a week over new year - did this 2 years ago - had a great time and a no brainer decision to do again. Come from Glasgow - a city not renowned for its fish & chips reputation (maybe chips on own OR some of the best Indian restaurants in the UK) You are spoilt for choice in Whitby when it comes to fish and chips & I haven’t sampled all but went to Royal Fisheries 2 years ago and was really impressed by the food - and said at time we would be back when next in Whitby.
Sat in restaurant today rather than takeaway - had haddock special and plaice - safe to say, when next in Whitby we will be back

We are a small unlicensed eatery, serving just pie mash peas and gravy. We welcome dogs and their owners but have a dog free area upstairs. We don't have any Alcohol, but you are more than welcome to bring your own or pop over the road to the Endeavour pub who will let you bring a nice cold pint back to your food.If we do something wrong or make a mistake, please let us know or contact me through the messaging service and i will put it right.I believe you should be able to have a filling quality meal for a decent price.
on a weekend away with my wife for her birthday. Been recommended by a colleague we dropped in. Great selection of pies, I had Lamb, Leek and Rosemary and my wife had Steak and Stout. both came with mash, mushy or garden peas and gravy. Really tasty and amazing value for money.

The Black Bull was recommended to us, Bill advising that it was a good idea to reserve a table. We did so and were not disappointed. We arrived, announced ourselves and were shown to our table. The lady serving the carvery, encouraged us to go and help ourselves to food, adding that we were welcome to go back for more if we had finished our first helping. Very sensible advice, then food is not wasted. We were brought up to eat everything on our plate before we could have any more, so we understood this maxim. Excellent food, great service. Only disappointment was the crust of the bread and butter pudding which was burnt - it tasted burnt, but the underneath was great!

Staying in nearby Danby for a week so visited again after a 10 year absence. Great to find that it’s still being run by the same owner and the food is as good now as it was then. We went 10 years ago as it was highly recommended, and we highly recommend it today too.
