Grand Hotel Viljandi has a 50-seat a` la carte restaurant. The menu combines traditional cooking from different countries.
A smart looking restaurant in the middle of the city. Staff was friendly, but obviously there was too few of them. The only waitress disappeared sometimes for lengthy time to the kitchen(?)... We ate grilled pike-perch fillet with potato croquettes, which was a bit mixed experience. The fish itself was excellent, just perfect. But the potato croquettes were a bit disappoinment, they didn't taste that fresh. I wonder if they were even made in the kitchen or just shopped in a supermarket nearby... Fortunately the dessert, cheese cake with strawberry sauce, was excellent again. If only those croquettes had been better, the experience would have been perfect as a whole.

The Viljandi coffeehouse offers catering for up to 90 persons.
My girlfriend is from this town and she recommended it during my visit. I had schnitzel, which was served with vegetables and potatoes. It was a good, hearty meal at an affordable price. The staff speaks English and was very nice. They also have an English menu. The interior is quite charming and cozy. It is located right on the edge of the Old Town, so there are significant historic buildings and ruins within walking distance.

Aida Café has found its place on the second floor of the Estonian Traditional Music Centre in Viljandi. Café has mesmerizing view of Viljandi Castle Hills and the Lake of Viljandi. We offer daily specials as well as a´la carte menu. There are place for 60 guests.
Aida Cafe is situated in the park area in Viljandi and that makes it attractive. At least for me. I think there is some kind of museum in the same building. cafe itself is on the 2nd and 3rd floor.
I came there somewhere around 1pm and for my surprise the menu was quite limited (2 ordinary main courses + 1 vege). But as I was with my kid I has easy option - chicken pasta.
I expected the service to be more friendly or sympathetic but it's Estonia :) Cafe itself lays on 2 floors and the upper floor is on the Terrace. And this was really nice (see my pictures).
Food came quickly and I have only nice words about pasta. There was roasted onion what gave to creamy sauce nice nuance. This moment I was glad that my kid didn't want to eat much so I had a chance to enjoy it by myself :)
Some tables had no parasols and it might get really hot during sunny day.
Would I go there again? If I'm with friends and it's nice weather then most probably I'd choose Terrace area. But if I'm alone I'd like to give a try to another places in Viljandi.
