The main city of the northern Tuscan Riviera area of Versilia, Viareggio began as a medieval fishing village, then later gained renown for its shipbuilding. In the mid-19th century, the town was developed as a seaside resort, which it’s been ever since. Today, the city is loved for its long beaches, pine woods, great shopping and lively nightlife. It’s also home to the famous carnival of Viareggio, dating back to the late 19th century and one of Europe’s most important carnival events.

Gorgeous location in Viareggio with an amazing marina view. Inside and outside tables. Menu or "a la cart" service. Excellent raw materials but an extremely classic cooking. I was expecting something more. Nothing to complaint about service, very welcoming and professional. Deserves a second option.

Little and nice place. Only 35 seats. Only fish. 12 to 15 little starters with good white wine just to begin. Then they proposes 6-7 different first wonderful dishes (pasta) . Usually we select 2-3 different tastes. Then you can chose among 2 or 3 second dishes , usually steam cooked fishes. The final is with their excellent desserts made by them and served with some sweet wine (usually from Southern Italy). If you like you can ask for a liquor:they have an incredible selection: grappas , rhum , whiskeys and so on.....
Currently the price is fix (35Euro) but don't hope to book a place. 2013 is already fully booked and they don't yet take bookings for 2014. I have some reservation in 2013 , booked in february 2012 !!!

One of the best restaurants of our Italy trip:
We booked a table for 8pm (which is when they open.)
We were greeted with a glass of prosecco on the house - what a great way to start.
We ordered two entrees with fish/seafood (tartar&scallops) - both very flavorful. While the fish/scallops very excellently cooked both dishes were very creatively flavored.
Then we had two pasta dishes as primi - both absolutely perfect as well.
As a main we shared the seafood/fish platter - the sauce it was cooked in was a delight and the fish/seafood was very tender.
We also had one dessert to finish - probably the least good dish of the night; but still very nice.
We tasted three different white wines where particularly the Riesling was an absolute delight.
The service was attentive, friendly and nice.
While some guests comment negatively on the atmosphere and the 'plastic' tables/chairs, I didnt mind at all - we sat in the garden; a lovely atmosphere and a modern look.

This place is located in the harbour zone of Viareggio. It's at walk distance from the center but it worth a visit. The place is very small but you do not feel lack of space because the furnishing is comfortable and has been properly designed....MoreDear Guest, thank you for your comment and your time spent writting the comment. We thank you again for your raccomandation and we do hope, we will have the pleasure of welcoming you again very soon. Best Regards Federica Bonfanti and Staff Nitens

The Esplanade Restaurant is housed in a beautiful luxury four-star Art Nouveau-style, on the Promenade of Viareggio.Near the sea and the beautiful pinewood, the restaurant Esplanade is the ideal location for receptions, banquets and elegant and romantic dinners.
I loved the tuna, gnocchi with chicory/speck/gorgonzola, spaghetti carbonara, salami platter, pork tenderloin with lardo, broccoli, lemoncella, red wines, croissants at breakfast, and most of all the wonderful service and special attention I received without fail. Molto Buono! Grazie!

The marinara pizza makes great late afternoon snack. No ceccina during the summer months, but just wait until October. If you like privacy while you're eating better get take out because unless you fill a booth, chances are you'll have diners joining your table. That's okay for me because I am just learning Italian, and enjoy hearing the actual vernacular.

We drove to this place solely due to trip advisor
We tried it. Ordered 3 pizzas.
After a total month spent in Italy I can state that the initial surprisingly negative impression was totally grounded.
First we thought that may be that is the way Italian pizza is. And we just don't understand something.
However, ALL other pizzas we tried were head-and-shoulders to those ones.
Even pizzas in 100 percent tourist spots.
It was better everywhere.
In many pizzerias where locals eat we found just amazing and cheaper pizza
Maybe they cooking for locals differently than for tourists. I have no idea. But that pizza (all three of them) was the worst ever we tried and it was just no way could be compared to many and many other Italian pizzerias serving just gourmet staff
It was a total disappointment

Relatively new restaurant that I tried for the first time this year in April and enjoyed very much with friends who had advised to book and go there. We enjoyed the atmosphere, the fish/food, price value for money as well as service. Highly recommended as I shall make sure to go again whenever I visit Viareggio again.

The gastronomy - wine shop La madia opened in 1993 from the passion of Laura and Nicola. The Madia offers high gastronomy dishes to go and different specialities, that you can even order. If you desire you can stop and have a quick meal on the outside veranda and tables! Just taste something of our prepared dishes, or choose something form the menu: spaghetti allo scoglio, paella, risotto di mare, penne scampi e curry, tortelli al ragu, lasagne, fritto di gamberi e totani con verdure, salumi and formaggi...
Only discovered this little beautiful restaurant and delicatessan on the last day of our holiday. The food is superb, freshly prepared and tastes delicious. We had fresh salmon salad with a variety of side salads and really good home made bread. There was a vast selection of oils, vinegars and many other condiments for sale. The Parma ham and cooked Turkey breast looked delicious. There also is a wide variety of wines for sale. I wish I lived closer to this little treasure!!
