This was our first visit to Hungary and once I started researching for a day-trip out of Budapest I discovered Vac and not only that but award winning cakes at Mihalyi Patisserie, from that moment on coffee and cake were on the itinerary.
Vac was busy with its Sunday trash and treasure market and people attending church when we arrived at Mihalyi Patisserie. The store was quiet and initially we were the only customers, walking inside we saw the cabinet full of delicious cakes, little eatable pieces of artwork. How were we to make our decision if it wasn't for the lovely wife of the pastry chef who whipped into action and described the sweet treats to us and pointed out which of the cakes were more traditional Hungarian.
To our delight when our coffee and cakes were served to us out the front of the store that the coffee arrived with a mini cone of gelati attached to it and a small glass of sparkling water.
I thoroughly enjoyed my cake which consisted of layers of sponge, apricot and a cream filling, topped with peaks of meringue. My significant other had a small round chocolate cake which consisted of many fine layers of cake sandwiched together with a hazelnut cream filling and covered with cocoa, a firm ring of biscuit, toffee glaze and a piece of chocolate. Simply divine.
On departure I complimented the chef on his magnificent craft and mentioned that I was so looking forward to visiting his store while on holiday, I mentioned that we were heading out on a hike further down the Danube and I was kindly given some biscuits for this adventure, beautifully packaged. Had we have stayed longer in Vac we would have loved to have tried the gelati. Quality like this comes at a price but it truly worth a visit to Mihalyi for the friendly delicious service.

We had dinner here on a cycling trip, just before sunset, on the Terrace. Youcan see the danube through the trees. The atmoshere was nice. We dont understand any hungarian and had our difficulties understanding the menu since it was not translated, but the waitress who was very friendly was able to help us. The food was niccely arranged on the plates (and tasted good). If you're hungry because you were cycling all day then you'll probably need a dessert since the plates were not overloaded. I enjoyed eating here. For 4 we payed 13500 Forint including dessert.

We went there with my husband to try the place for lunch.
I can only tell positive things. The decoration is beautiful, the staff professional, the food fantastic, the homemade lemonades taste really fine, the service is quick, even the music was so good!
We will definitely return, and soon!

While biking along the Danube we stop for lunch at the Révkapu Restaurant in Vác. We are a bit resigned at this point that local restaurants in this part of Europe cannot do justice to vegan needs. However here we finally find a chef who understands his veggies, and we are presented with two dishes. One is a potato pasta (Crumples Tésta), and the other a sensitively fried mix of vegetables with delicate seasoning. Absolutely delicious and one of the best restaurant meals of our trip.

If you are in Vac, and you want decent quality fast food, you can safely go to Repeta. I went there several times. The staff is friendly and the food is good. Perhaps only the salads leave to be desired, although it may have been just a temporary lack of freshness. The burgers are delicious and highly recommended.

We had lunch for the first time at Hekkterasz as we heard a lot of good things about it.
It is adviseable to reserve your place in advance as the restaurant is very popular though spacious enough.
The service was faultless, our waitress was really nice and professional.
As to the food it is mainly various fish plates but you can choose some traditional dishes or dfferent burgers.
The food was really good and nicely disposed on the plate.
We really had a good time there and I can only recommend it to everyone.

This donut shop is centrally located, in the heart of the city. I couldn't resist to try it one day. The donuts are very sweet, with lots of flavors to choose from. They also serve other sweets and beverages. The staff is very nice, and you get exactly what you came for. Good sweet donuts with a Hungarian twist.

The section of hot chocolates were amazing! The quality spoke for itself. Coffess and hot chocolates were excellent! The atmosphere was nice with a matching interior design. You must come here if you happen to be in Vac! :-)
