Upminster is a suburban town in east London, England, and part of the London Borough of Havering. Located 16.5 miles (26.6 km) east-northeast of Charing Cross, it is one of the locally important district centres identified in the London Plan, and comprises a number of shopping streets and a large residential area. Historically in Essex, Upminster was originally a rural village and formed an ancient parish. Although peripheral to London, the town has good transport links; it was first connected to central London by rail in 1885 and has a terminal station on the London Underground network. The economic history of Upminster is characterised by a shift from farming to garden suburb. As part of the suburban growth of London in the 20th century, Upminster significantly expanded and increased in population, becoming part of Hornchurch Urban District in 1934, and has formed part of Greater London since 1965.

This is a good old fashioned restaurant, the food was quiet good ,the staff were lovely , and the table was cleared after each course, they brought round the dessert trolley , and I wanted strawberries and meringue I watched them disappear as the trolley went round and when it got to our table they had all gone, but the staff went and made me a fresh one lovely thank you

Well located restaurant in the centre of town. Friendly attentive staff with a nice atmosphere. Very popular so can get very noisy if large groups of people. Nice range on the menu and had excellent Thai fish cakes and red chicken curry for mains. Really nice selection of ice cream available.

This Is An Old Restaurant, It Has Been Trading In The Same Place For Many Years, Family Owned
Othello has been our go to restaurant for nearly thirty years. Always great food. Their steaks are 'to die for'. Even if you are a big party all the food is delivered together, hot and of the same good quality. The management hasn't changed and is usually on hand. That's why the place stays the same. Yes, we do go to other places but Othello is the one you can always come back to.

We arrived about 13.30 and had not booked the venue. Lunch was in full swing and the pub was full. We enquired about the possibility of something to eat, but was told it was fully booked. A waiter came out and said there was a spare table for four and that we could have it. How was that for luck. The deco is very old worldly with a great atmosphere. We ordered drinks and was shown to our tables and given the menu. For lunch it was vast. I opted for stuffed chicken, on a bed of asparagus with mushrooms and a choice of fresh veg, thin or fat chips. I had the fat chips. When our meal arrived it was hot, well presented and plenty of it. In fact it was delicious. My wife had the Hunters Chicken, there was so much of it she could not finish. But we all agreed the food was absolutely superb. This pub is highly recommended. But I would advise to book first as you may not be so lucky as we were.

Traditional Italian
I couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough. We eat here at least once a month (probably more)
The food is amazing, I think I may have tried everything on the menu now as we have been coming here for years. The service is fantastic the waiters/staff are always fantastic and make you feel so welcome. We visit Italy every year (different places) and this is definitely a little taste of Italy in Upminster.
I would recommend the mussels (usually a special) and for main ... well ... the steak, any of the pastas and tonight I tried the calves liver for the first time and it was beautiful.
Anything you pick I doubt you will be disappointed.
If you are around the area it is a must.
Thank you for always being so amazing !

Food was good (although my chicken dansak was a little sweet, my partner said the same about her peshwari chicken) & the bill was very reasonable but this place seemed to have a bit of an identity crisis.
A number of customers who had come to pick up their takeaways on this very busy Saturday night stopped for a pint or two at the small bar turning the already raucous restaurant into the equivalent of a rowdy inner city bar, certainly not conducive to a comfortable dining experience. The manager commented to my partner that he was 'stressed' and I could understand why.
Probably wouldn't go back to the restaurant but would get a takeaway from here (delivered!)

Recently moved to Upminster and noticed how busy this chip shop always seemed to be. The hygiene rating is a 5 so I was happy to go for it.
I found that despite the food being lovely, the portions of chips were quite small. I ate at around 6 and was hungry again at 9 because there just wasn't enough chips! Saying that, I did return as the food was lovely. Thought the small portion was a one off however I found that not to be the case.
Curry sauce is amazing though!
I will be returning but will probably get a large chips which will unfortunately put the cost up.

If you want a great Indian meal in the Upminster / Hornchurch area, the Masala Grill is a great family run restaurant. The food is always fresh and the atmosphere is very welcoming. We have tried many in the area but keep back to the Masala Grill as it’s consistently the best around. The only problem is when they close for their family holiday and we have to try go somewhere else !!!!
Give it go and ask them to recommend a dish....

I should have sent a review on "Spice" years ago. We have had numerous meals and take-aways from here and the food has been consistently good. Service is friendly and efficient, even through many staff changes over the years. Even the opening of their up-market Ginger Lounge (which is equally good) hasn't completely changed our eating habits. In the words of Arnie, I'll be back
