Having found what looked like a very small seafood restaurant in St Kilda this room opened out into a truly magical outside space, bijou, but that was the charm of the place. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The menu was a wonderful mix of seafood, beautifully presented and served. The outside lights were all model ships hanging from trees which a lovely subdued lighting adding to the atmosphere. Should be tried for a great seafood experience, thank you claypots restaurant .

Went there for dinner with some locals. The Patagonian fish was excellent. Beware, its expensive though the portions are good. The beef was also very good. Could not fault any of the dishes we had. service was also very professional and informative.
Great experience. Would definitely recommend this place, though its more expensive than the local chinese.

We sat down at a footpath table. The wait staff appeared immediately and took our drinks order and gave us a menu. Our drinks were delivered quickly (that was good, as it was a very hot evening) and our order taken. The pizza looked good, (we could see the preparation through the front window) so we ordered one to share. The waitress was very pleasant, efficient -- and Italian! One of the best pizzas we have ever had, cooked to perfection with plenty of topping (as we Aussies like it). We paid our bill and told the pizza chefs what a great pizza it was. They were as stoked as we were. We'll be back!

Lentil As Anything, St Kilda, provides delicious food on a pay-as-you-feel basis to all members of the community.
I visited here with my partner after Reading about this place online, and wanted to visit to support the cause.
The first thing we noticed was that it was absolutely freezing in there - the front door was kept open and we had to keep our jackets on whilst we ate.
We both ordered Thali of the day - which was lovely in flavour, and seemed very authentic! The lentils were a particular favourite, and we both enjoyed the main - however I would have liked to have had one more small bowl of authentic curry/food (maybe a spicy one) or slightly larger servings of the first (as the lack of vegetables in the dishes didn't quite settle the appetite.
Unfortunately, the Thali was the only enjoyable thing about our experience - the service was very slow considering it wasn't particularly busy, and was a little disappointed that the only drink on offer was water - served in a plastic beaker.
The desert was chocolate chip cake - which was awful and neither of us had more than one bite!
Nevertheless, we paid $15 each for our meals, but won't be making a trip back. It's a shame because we do desperately wanted this to be a new favourite as the concept and aim of this place is fantastic, but it simply fell short in just too other areas!

Welcome to Donovans - our ‘house on the beach’ and home we love to share. Donovans is located on the St.Kilda beach front offering guests a memorable dining experience in Melbourne. With a bay side view, beautiful mediterranean inspired food and the special relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant, Donovans is where you will feel at home.
Donovan’s has never disappointed. It is very classy, warm and inviting. From the welcome at the door to the final farewell we were cared for, nurtured, nourished and engaged in the entire meal.
The meals were perfect - portions, flavours and plate presentation - in every way. Including the two small children, every diner’s meal was a work of culinary art.
Donovan’s is highly recommended.

To be honest, our experience really wasn't that great. Maybe better service would have helped, but even so the seafood main was given a 6 out of 10 ("all the elements were there, it looked right, but it just then wasn't anything that special"). Two of us had the share steak and it would have been delicious if it had been hot. Of the 5 of us, two mains arrived piping hot, but then we waited for rather a long time before the share steak and duck arrived. We had to send the French fries back because they were tepid ... lovely and brown, but not hot. When the new ones arrived they were pale and flabby, albeit hot, and the waiter didn't take away the cold ones. Anyway, we began on the steak and realised it was tepid too, and the sauces in the two little bowls had a skin on top. Just no point complaining: what are they going to do? Cook another one and we then eat when everyone else has finished? So we just ate it. That long wait between the first two mains arriving and the rest? I think our steak just sat in the kitchen getting cold. And this restaurant is noisy if other diners are noisy. Whilst I appreciate a restaurant can't manage this, the party of four men behind me were so loud, esp one who laughed so loudly that we'd stop talking until he'd finished guffawing. Out of our party of five, four said they wouldn't go back. I said I'd go back if I just wanted a good steak and a bottle of red, and I was soundly mocked. The place wasn't full, but it was certainly busy, so I doubt they will miss our custom. But Chez Oliver just isn't for us.

Banff has been an establishment on struggling Fitzroy street for as long as I can remember. This little bar/cafe does two things really well. Italian food and coffee, both of which I adore. And they're open Australia Day which is always a bonus :)
Today I enjoyed the number 12 and 14 pizzas. The first was the feta, mozzarella, bocconicini and Parmesan with roasted tomatoes on a garlic base. Perfectly cooked, thin crust and not too oily
The second pizza was the Tuscan spiced roast vegetables. Totally up to standard.
We also enjoyed the soy latte and regular latte made by their la marzocco coffee machine :)
They get four stars because one of the forks was dirty and one of the cups had "floaties" in it. Otherwise a great place!

Nice view on the St Kilda beach.
Very friendly and nice staff. Happy our on the daily recommend menu in the evening.
The waitress very friendly and the kitchen is very flexible.
Ask them for a simply tomato salad only with vinegar and olive oil which was not on the menu.
They did this straight without any issues.
I liked this flexibility.
