We couldn't get in on the Friday evening, so booked for Sat. Service was fantastic and the food very nice. We had steak, very well cooked (although a little too much pepper sauce). Was one of the more expensive meals we had but it was worth it.

In wintertime, you can get here only on skis, and are well advised to spend the night. The reason is simple: the culinary and wine offers on the Angerer Alm can simply not be resisted.
We called in here after the O.H. strained his back coming down from the top of the mountain, and he just couldn't ski any more. We were resigned to paying for an expensive rescue for him from the mountain, but decided to have something to eat and drink first. Excellent gulaschsuppe and some wine, but he still wasn't up to skiing the short distance down to the gondola half-way station. We asked for them to order a rescue, but they incredibly kindly took him down to the mid-station without any fuss or having to call out the rescue people. Service way, way, over and above the call, lovely food as well. They were getting ready for dinner service when we were there (ironing table cloths on the table - not something you expect to see half way up a mountain!) - the manageress/owner told us that people walk up to eat there, so I'm certain it's well worth the slog. Highly recommended.

We found this location having visited the waterfall at the back of St Johann (unless you've never seen one - not worth the effort).
It's a large location, but we didn't find the staff overly friendly which was unusual in the two weeks in the area.
They have a good range of food and drinks available at reasonable prices.
Worth a visit for the views alone.

service was good and the platter of ham was nice. But families should bring their own drinks - e2.5 for juice! no children's menu. better to eat at the middle station as Uncle Toms Cabin has a more affordable range.
You can watch the paragliders on a good day. And for e10 you can ride a cart down a dirt track to the base. great views all round.

The traditional Dampfl Restaurant in the centre of St. Johann offers the typical tirolian cuisin with a new, freh style.
If you are looking for a traditional local eatery, with local specialities and surprisingly good local wines - both red and white-, in the middle of the main square, efficient service, and a twist, this is your place.
My Pumpkin soup with coconut, ginger and real pumpkin seeds was just delicious and a large portion for a starter. Calf's liver was tasty, well cooked, and the side dishes as delicious too.
Price were also lower than you would expect.
It feels like the real thing and the food is great, so there go my 5 stars!!!

I very rarely write a negative review but in this case I really felt compelled to do so.
My wife and I were in St.Johann i.T. for two nights and had read the wonderful reviews about this interesting restaurant, thus deciding to try it ourselves. While the location is very central and practical as well as unique, in the tall tower of the local Huber brewery, the food was really only average. Furthermore the decision of management not to prohibit smoking in the small area results in all patrons and staff being subjected to clouds of cigarette smoke. Management is even proud of the fact that they make no such effort with a disclaimer in the elevator leading up to the restaurant. Smoke was one issue but even in its absence the food was nothing special and definitely exceedingly salty. I realize that tastes vary and that Austrian food may be more salty than other nations typically use, but the Goulash we ordered had probably been simmering in the pot for a few days and had now condensed to such an unpalatable extent that we were hard pressed to finish our meal. Their version of a Wienerschnitzel was also very salty and we were told that the meat was soaked/marinated in a salt brine before being cooked - and it tasted accordingly salty. In retrospect I regret not having mentioned it to our server. Though it did achieve the goal of making us order more beer. Which is very good and enjoyable.
As I stated above, perhaps we just happened upon the restaurant on an off-night.

This place is fully booked every night and rightly so. The pizza is excellent (made in a traditional open oven) - I could not overstate how tasty it is. The pasta is very good, and the service is quick - helpful and nice waiters. Moderately priced.

Superb restaurant set in a woodland clearing with wonderful views. A real traditional Austrian treat. Excellent English spoken which helped with a mainly German menu. Fantastic food with a great choice of venison - roe deer, red deer and Chamois. Cooked to perfection. They also had one vegetarian dish which I am told was very good. Cannot recommend this place enough. Brilliant apple fritters for pudding. Try it out if in the Sankt Johann area. You will not be disappointed.

What a surprise to find Nini cooking up authentic Thai in the middle of the snow covered Alps..
Nini is a young Thai girl married to an Austrian with a new-born child, working hard in this modest eatery. Her German is excellent and her English is good.
There are about 4 seats, so it is best treated as a take-away. However I found myself having a few Singha beers (sold there) as I watched Nini and her friend prepare my food from fresh. This took about 10 minutes.
The food is tasty and I found myself coming back again during one week's skiing in St. Johann. This food is great value and a good alternative to traditional Austrian dishes which are the norm here.
As will0w19 points out; there is also a good restaurant next door. It is different enough from Nini's to give it a go and the food is also of good quality. A good alternative if you cannot sample Nini's delights.
Lucky St. Johann!

Arrived at 9pm as the chef was taking down the menu signs but he welcomed us in. this is a very small restaurant/bar but the food did not dissappoint. We enjoyed a hearty Tiroler Grost'l [egg and beef on fried bacon and potato slices, e9.5] and a yummy Blutworst [black pud potato fry-up, e8.5]. house wine was e3.30 a glass and wheat beer e3.70 for a half-litre. Smokers in the bar area but not noticeable in the back room.
