It is a hotel restaurant which are sometimes a bit and miss affair. This was a hit affair. Nice service and reasonable prices and very tasty food. The place was a bit understaffed however our waiter was very attentive ,polite and obliging. A nice experience. The only downside was an attitude of one of the managers. We arrived at 6.45pm and asked could we eat. No sorry we open at 7pm but you can have a drink at the bar while you are waiting. So we headed to the bar to see a sign "your barman is away from the bar but will return shortly" Fine. The said manager who sent us to the bar arrives and ignores us and starts chatting to one of the staff and offers him a beer. Us the paying guest at the hotel are totally ignored. This lack of attention was duly noted. This guy should not be in a management position if this is his altitude

An invitation from a dear friend to come and visit Spa, brought us to Restaurant Le Grand Maur, table for three. Very nice setting, comfortable and private. Food was excellent (Moules, Langoustine and Maqueras followed by Pigeon and filet of Daurade) and so was the wine (Chablis 1er). But the dessert was a smasher, accompanied by a glass of Monbazillac.
Don't miss this restaurant when you're in the neigbourhood !

Relatively small but cozy restaurant with a nice menu including mussels.
Bonus is an "amuse bouche" served before a delicious meal. Different take on veal tonnato which was excellent as was the generous serving of tender flavoursome mussels. Very fresh warm bread a welcome addition.
No space for desert on this visit so will go back to complete the experience.

The ranking suggested good hopes for a culinary surprise. Unfortunately a bit of a let down. Medium duck was well done, luckily not dry. My Guinea fowl had disappeared under a mountain of oyster mushrooms. Fries were greasy (fried once?) The place was jam packed with customers, and guests were refused due to lack of tables, so they must be doing something well. We were not impressed. Maybe an incident? Difficult to communicate as well. My french is very poor, but with 3 well developed languages, it was still hard to get our wishes across. I had to pull out all the stops to convince I got the wrong check, which turned out to be from the table next to us. We cleared it up, but it was a bit messy.

Stopped in for a late lunch while walking the Route des Fontains. The atmosphere was a bit fussy but the food was anything but. Beautifully presented and decent sized portions at quite reasonable prices. I loved my grilled shrimp salad topped with a citrus dressing but there were five other dressing choices as well. Service was friendly.

This restaurant looks quite unobtrusive on the outside and it's cosy and welcoming on the inside. We had dinner there and I loved it but my wife didn't particularly like her main course which she described as gluey. I can only think that it was a one off and I would definitely go back. The food was imaginative and the service was friendly and efficient. The bill was also very reasonable.

I would not call this a fusion cuisine however. It's European and mostly French. The starters are EUR 20+ and the main EUR 30+. However, the meal deal is very attractive at 45EUR so that is what we went with. Had an excellent Amuse bouche, sea food starter, main course (grilled fish) and dessert (creme brule).
Every course is explained by the waiter, which is a nice touch. Service was fast and they did accomodate us inspite of not having reserved a table on what must be the busiest weekend of the year.

small restaurant, very cosy, friendly atmosphere
really good choice of italian food , everything is fresh and tasty
friendly service making you feeling good from the first minute
maybe wines could be improved , but if you go to Spa i recommend you stop there
NB : the restaurant being small you'd better book your table

Absolutely beautful setting in the Ardennes of Belgium. Very Expensive and worth the price.
The manor grounds were amazing! The staff were very helpful! Benoit took great care of us while we were there! Also the other person (I just forgot his name). Spoke excellent english, both of them.
Breakfast was amazing as well. Rooms were big and clean! A/C was nice for an older hotel (not even Paris hotels offered A/C). Too bad we missed out on their restaurant, Im sure it would have been a better experience, had we ate at their restaurant!

Going to l'auberge whilst visiting Spa is a must!
The atmosphere is friendly and inviting, the waiters speak very good English so it is easy to get what you want out of your experience.
Me and my boyfriend dined here last night, we spend approx €80 for the two of us - this included 3 glasses of beer, half a bottle of wine and two high end main courses.
Once we sat down our waiter bought us some complimentary antipasty olives and pistachios and asked what we would like to drink. I asked for the wine list expecting to be able to order a caraf as my boyfriend isn't a wine drinker. The waiter kindly told me that you can order a bottle of wine - but you only pay for how much you have! He kept me topped up until I decided I'd had enough - such a great idea as you don't feel eblidged to drink the entire bottle which happens in most cases in England!
After the olives and pistachios the waiter bought a complimentary amuse boosh/apperitive which was very delightful. Fresh bread and butter was then bought and we ordered our mains.
I went for the lobster and my boyfriend had the steak. When it arrived the presentation was amazing. We had all the right cutlery to eat out meals and it was extremely tasty. Every detail was though out.
All in all - if you want some amazing service, fresh delicious well presented food in a vibrant atmosphere that doesn't cost the world then this is your place to visit!
Thanks again L'Auberge we will be back next year!
