Lunch buffet with a selection of starters, main course and dessert available on weekedays from 11am to 2 pm(summertime until 3pm). Meeting facilities and catering.
A positive surprise. A very nice and well composed menu to choose from. All we had was tasty, particularly the pepper steak. A bit pricey though: for the price I would have expected even more. We also liked that the childrens' menu was actually nice...MoreThank you for visiting us and for your friendly feedback. Wish you all well and welcome to Mikkeli´s Pruuvi restaurant again! The expectations were a bit higher when entering this restaurant because the location is excellent in the beautiful harbour area of Savonlinna. However, it turned out to be a very average place serving very average food, with no special highlights, though no drastic disappointments, either. Considering the quality of the food the price level is on the high side. A big plus goes for the friendly and flexible service attitude of the staff.

Restaurant Piikätyttö at Hotel & Spa Resort Järvisydän offers unique premises for dining and get-togethers in a historical atmosphere. There is room for 150 quests to come and be served by our humble hosts and hostesses - the main hall seats 120 persons and the smaller room 30 persons.
Food was very well made and big portions. The young waitress was very competent and even though there was a big company of french visitors she had a smile on her lips all the time and spoke both english and french perfectly. Wish her best...MoreDear Anne, thank you so much for your kind feedback! We will certainly forward it to our waitress and chefs. Thank you, Heiskanen family

Better than many buffet lunch places which are now so common in Finland as this is based by a large bakery to the East of Mikkeli. There is a vegetarian main course option and dessert i.e. Siiskonen cakes. Surprisingly large restaurant but popular. Fresh coffee. Wide variety of bread, pastries, cakes in shop. Recommend salmon or meat pastry slices from shop

A delightful summer restaurant in a lush garden setting overlooking St. Olaf's Castle in Savonlinna, the lake district of Finland. We are a family business, well known for excellent food and impeccable service. Reasonable prices and large portions also during the opera season. We love to have you as our guest ♥. Please make a reservation. Bar open until 2am weather permitting.
Well, the title really says it all really : ) If visiting at Opera time, be sure to make a reservation! As Sarastro is the first Terrace you come across when leaving the castle, it does fill up very quickly. The food is rustic - but has something for everyone. I have visited twice this month and had the burger - which was good, the fries were a bit dry though - and the peppered fillet steak. The meat was absolutely delicious, melted in your mouth and perfectly cooked, although the amount of pepper was slightly too much even for me and I love spicy food!
The staff at Sarastro deserve a special mention - jovial, knowledgeable and approachable, no matter who you are or what language you speak. Able to recommend wines to go with your dishes (and got them spot on!) and just making everyone feel special, I don't see any reason to dine anywhere else in Savonlinna ever again :)
The atmosphere at the place is really lovely and warm - we ended up sitting with a group of several people who did not know each other from before, discussing the opera we had all seen that evening - and rarely do you get such experiences in Finland. This place obviously has some sort of magic.

Mainstream Finnish food is prone to being dull, heavy, and lacking in greens, and Bistro Waahto displays all these failings.
The dishes we ate were at the level of very basic pub/brasserie food by international standards, but with smaller portions and higher prices.
It was overall an unpleasant dining experience, and the beer wasn't good enough to rescue it.

I enjoyd pancake with strawberry jam and whipped cream. It was just like my grandmother had done it when I was little girl. So tasty. They have many variations on fillings, you can choose salty or sweet. And Sulosaari-island is a great place to walk around. Saimaa lake is allover... I really recommend this one! Best summer cafe in Savonlinna!
