As a hotel the Gasterij Krabbendam is clean, practical and represents good value for money even if some of the fittings are a little tired.
As a restaurant the Gasterij Krabbendam is just astonishingly good. The imaginative menu changes with the seasons and has an emphasis on fresh market produce. My last meal (in late January) centred round an exquisitely prepared fillet steak with chicory encircled by potato poffertjes and embellished with a rich port sauce. My wife had lamb cutlets (the best she has eaten in years) and the desserts were fabulous.
The restaurant splits into two halves – the main bar area which is absolutely okay, and behind it a more formal dining area with a window onto the spotlessly clean kitchen. The menu includes fresh game and fish dishes and if you don’t want to bother with selecting your own meal there are ‘surprise’ three-, four- or five-course meals with accompanying wines. There are also ‘sampler’ dishes: a trio of crustacean starters included a crab spring roll, skewered king prawns and lobster bisque and was quite delicious; the trio of chocolate desserts was simply scrumptious. Service is friendly and efficient and I recommend the place wholeheartedly.

While pancake restaurants might be synonymous with children’s parties, this little gem is totally different. Housed in what looks like a very old pub, the building oozes atmosphere. Apart from the modern beer-pumps, the place looks like it has been untouched for the last 100 years, with even the staff wearing period costumes. The little front room is packed with memorabilia from what looks like several generations of priests, probably related to the church next door (also worth a visit).
The menu boasts a huge range of pancakes, and if you can’t find what you want, you can order it anyway! They taste great, and come in decent portions, leaving most diners satisfied but not over-filled. Staff are friendly yet efficient, and there is a good selection of drinks with the meals.
Although slightly of the beaten track, this restaurant should find a place on your itinerary if possible.

Always good! The surprice menu is always very nice and served with very good wines if you want.
The french fries served with the main dish was kind of misplaced and probably only there for very hungry dutch people who can't live without fries but you can just ignore them.
Food is absolutely excellent and the price a bargain for what you get!

Friends of ours live in Someren and invited us to dine with them at "Ons Jongens" ("Our boys"). It is a small-scale restaurant, run by two young, but very talented cooks. They won second place in a European contest for young cooks! That they are talented becomes clear pretty quickly. Their dishes are original, beautiful, and very tasty. Our lady friend was pregnant at the time we visited the restaurant, and the cooks had taken care to change her dishes accordingly (if necessary) - and again in an original way. Also iur friend's drinks were adjusted; she was served a very nice pregnancy-proof cocktail based on ginger ale - very jummy. We have eaten at a few Michelin star restaurants and in our opinion the food here was at least as good - but it was much more affordable. We would really like to come back here to see and taste what else the two cooks have up their sleeve.

I live in Dubai and I never (seriously NEVER) eat italian outside because I know for sure I will be disappointed. Also I was wondering who would appreciate italian home made food in the middle of the Netherlands.. well now am wondering who wouldn't!
Loved the food at Trattoria Aglio e Olio, it brought me back home for a couple of hours. Strongly recommend to stop by and give it a try or even better take a detour in your journery anre reach Asten for a fine dining experience.. I guarantee you will not regret it. Compliments to the team and the wonderful chef! Good job guys keep the italian taste up!

For what is essentially a pancake restaurant, there is great atmosphere in this, what used to be, old farm house. Great staff! And the pancake was delicious. Definitely a restaurant to recommend!

We visited the restaurant for a family meal and were not disappointed,The friendly staff were very welcoming and the choice and selection of food was very varied and all cleanly displayed, the cooking staff were very knowledgeable, The eating area was very clean, the only downside was the lack of air conditioning, the blowers under the stairs is not sufficient, Very well done to all concerned

Enjoyed spending time with my family from Asten while visiting from Canada at this unique eatery. It was a pleasant surprise to dine here knowing my cousin's daughter is one of the chef's here. But she joined us that day to dine with us. A pleasant quaint pub/restaurant with very friendly hard working staff. All our meals looked delish and of course tasted very good. Thanks again Mark8

With a group of 12 (most senior citizens) we had an excellent dinner a la carte; the order were taken efficiently and Delivery was fast thanks to efficioent waitresses and wireless contact with the kitchen. After a lunch the previous day - which was very good, we decide to book for dinner the next day. It has been a long time since we had such good food for such a very reasonbale/cheap price, and at the same time an efficient service.
