I have been to the Pioneer House a few times recently, as I have just moved to the area and it came recommened, and it is never great. First time I ordered the crab cake eggs benedict and the crab cakes only tasted of onion. Actually the onion taste overwhelmed the entire dish. Next time it was for the prime rib that came with a tough Yorkshire pudding and gravy that looked like thick brown sludge. Last time was for lunch where the server suggested the tortilla soup with a side of rice to bulk it out to what was to be a spicy & flavourful dish. Nope, bland. Service was average unless you were a regular then the staff went out of their way.

We had the price fixe, which is rare for us. And we were glad we did. The choices were all interesting and each dish was a happy event. We will return regularly. Decent wine list, some excellent selections and reasonably priced. Service also good. We will return.

Nestled in the tranquility of picturesque Genoa Bay on Vancouver Island, about 1 hour north of Victoria and only 20 minutes from Duncan, the Genoa Bay Café has rewarded guests with one of the most delightful dining experiences in the Cowichan Valley.
Came here for our second anniversary dinner. We come every year and also on special occasions. The food is always amazing and fresh. The staff are professional and relaxed, making you feel very comfortable. Make a reservation when you go, especially in the summer months. Definitely recommend this to everyone!

Merridale is a delicious destination in Cowichan —an apple orchard, craft cider house, small batch distillery, and wedding and event venue. Our authentic Vancouver Island restaurant combines cider and spirit pairings with a farm to table inspired menu, and our artisan bakery crafts fresh baked goods made with our cider leaven in brick ovens. Savour house-made delicacies such as sausages, cured meats, salad dressings, breads, and pies - then pick some up at the farm store to take home! Enjoy a true island experience from your table on the covered deck overlooking the orchard and fresh herb and vegetable garden. Or join us for one of our special dinners – pizza nights with live music, mystery spirit cask dinners, and so much more.
My girlfriend took me here for lunch when I was visiting last week. It has such a laid back, zen feel to it. It is so lovely. My personal highlight was the cider tasters. I've attached a picture. Cider is a focus for this restaurant and it was absolutely delightful. Recommend Merridale Ciderworks.

a family run spot since 1983, lots of locals and regulars. came here with our family who've recently moved to the area. happy our 11 yr. old grandson could eat here with us for lunch. they attempted to play pool with him the last time they came here, but were asked not to. maybe that's something that could be thought about. a large room. friendly and efficient server. all of us had a different meal, our family happy with theirs. my husband and i found our salad and Sandwich average. an english style pub. our family are looking forward to returning.

Went for coffee and to have a bit to eat having purchased a coupon from Island Daily Deals. Food was nondescript, coffee ok. Even though it is just a 3 minute walk from me I would not go again.
