Royston Picture Palace

Love that Royston has this little gem!
Tickets are value for money unlike the big cinemas!
Visited last August 2015 when I was 8 months pregnant to watch Magic Mike with my Mum and Sister. Lol The lovely volunteers/staff were so nice, one even worried that I might go into labour considering what we were watching! Lol
The venue is large, sound and picture were perfect.
My children have since been to see the screening of Star Wars and they won the fancy dress and got 2 free tickets to see another movie as well as popcorn, drinks and sweets!
They're due to see another movie soon!
Why go anywhere else when this is on your doorstep!? :)

Royston Cave

Royston Cave is a bee-hive shaped man made cave cut into the chalk beneath Melbourn Street and decorated with religious and secular carvings on almost every wall. Some of the carvings are easily recognised as the Crucifixion, St Catherine, St Christopher and St Lawrence, but others still defy positive identification. Most do however appear to be medieval in style. There are numerous theories as to the origin and use of the cave although none are conclusive owing to a lack of hard historical evidence. The theories include the cave having been a hermitage, an early Freemason's lodge, a gaol and a secret meeting place for the Knights Templar. Interestingly, the latest research carried out by the curator at the Royal Armouries Museum indicates that the carvings are unlikely to have been made before 1350.

Under the main road in Royston, it is fascinating. Old carvings and interesting commentary. This is not a polished tourist destination, but rather an interesting local historical place dating back to "who knows?" At GBP5 per person, it is dirt cheap and worthwhile visiting.

Visited with friends for a Friday night meal. Very cosy inside with beams, roaring fires and worn leather sofas. Service was very friendly and efficient They do a great G& T. Everybody was happy with their food. Generous portions and the pies got a very good review from those that had them. Felt as if we got good value for money and would happily go back.

Apocalypse Paintball

This was part of an Xmas Present from my brother-in-law, who is really in to outdoor activities, I myself haven't run about in anything like this since I was about 12... So you can Imagine how this was going to go down...
We arrived pretty early and spent the whole day there, The staff were excellent and very professional, and we had a full safety briefing before any of us were allowed anywhere near the equipment.
They have different games and in the morning there was only a few of us which really helped me as it was my first ever time paint-balling, in the afternoon there was enough people to make up two teams of more than 20 people in each, believe me there were paint-balls in every direction, all in all it was an absolutely awesome day.
I would like to say especially a big thank you to Markey for his help and support throughout the entire day, thank you, really great guy.
The staff even went out on our behalf and purchased lunch, which we only had to pay for at the end of the day.

Played here the other day, the bunkers are in need of attention which they are receiving. Hopefully, this will help to improve the condition of some of them requiring attention. The rough has been considerably cut back making finding balls off the fairways easier. Still there is the big issue of walkers not paying attention and walking and even sitting on fairways as you are about to play. This is an unnecessary distraction and can spoil the game for players. There are enough signs about but unfortunately some walkers do not pay any attention and are not familiar with the rules on the course.

The Boars Head

Reviewed By TiredTrotter - London

Historic, half timbered pub which was first licensed when George III was on the throne. It serves four different cask ales including two rotating guest beers - plus hot meals, sandwiches and cakes etc. The beer is kept in good condition - and of course there is lager etc on offer too :( My wife says the wines she has had here are also good.
The ambience is usually good, with well chosen but discrete music on offer and no Television constantly on (yeah!) though a big screen is available for special events. Pub quizzes are held and table games are available. The landlord and staff are eager to welcome new clients and make people feel at home.
It can get busy on Friday and Saturday eves so choose midweek if you prefer a quieter drink. Watch your head as you approach the bar - the 18th century ceiling beam is low!
