Sergiyev Posad is roughly 70 km northeast of Moscow, accessible by train from Moscow's Yaroslavsky Station. The city’s centerpiece is the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius Lavra, one of the largest and most important monasteries in Russia.

A lot of scary things around - soviet quarters, building grounds, bumpy roads, and not too much luxury inside, but really tasty and mostly authentic dishes from Central Asia for a low price. If you like to visit places for locals, this is one of them. Working hours are 10--19, as in many places here.
There're Delivery service and other rooms including cafe (not self-service), but I found it closed.

This property is in a strategic position, a few dozen meters from the entrance of the St. Sergius' monastery. You should definitely come here before or after the monastery's visit, avoiding the ugly cafe opposite the entrance
The food was excellent and moderately priced: two portions of pirotzki, stuffed with vegetables or mushrooms, a Caesar salad with shrimp, three salmon fillets; two large beers, all for 2,130 rubles.
Just the quality of food and its price helps me to neutralize the low score attributable to service.
The problem is not even the kindness or the speed of service; but (as so often it happens in Russia) the difficulty to understand if you don't speak Russian. Eg, instead of the two pirotzki we asked, three have come to the table: one thus had to return to the kitchen.
Then even this property will have to gain in attractiveness if at least one of the waiters will manage to speak a minimum of English.

Highly recommend this place-located in the heart of Sergiev Posad,in a calm street right in front of Lavra. English-speaking staff, naturally Russian cousine dishes (taken from the recipes book of 1886,just imagine!), with the interesting serving style. Drinks (mors, kvas, lots of teas etc) are all home-made and very tasty! Bakery is also here, cookies are served to every tea order) The design of the cafe is retro-style - as the standard Soviet flat looked like, with plenty of interesting decor pieces coming from the Soviet period. Very nice, cosy and comfortable! The prices are rather low, especially in comparison with some expensive restaurants in the center.
The staff speaks English and is very nice and friendly. The only thing-they do not except credit cards, take cash with you!

Atmosphere: Absolutely excellent. This is a beautiful restaurant and certain tables have views of the monetary.
Food: Good. Lots of options and the food we ordered was tasty.
Service: Very slow to get to our table and take our order but otherwise friendly. We needed the assistance of our guide to work through the menu and order.
Price: Reasonable
